AIBU to think THT would have been so much better if they had chosen another actress to play Offred? Why do they allow her to pull ridiculous faces at the camera all the time? Completely takes away from the realism. I’m on season 6 now and burst out laughing at the end of episode 2 - another deranged stare down the camera. It’s so silly

And that ridiculous deep breathing, breathy talk thing that she does too… drives me insane

Deadringer · 21/06/2025 17:05

I am not a fan of the actress but I think she is great in the role.

Screamingabdabz · 21/06/2025 17:07

I think Elizabeth Moss been an incredible actress. Especially in some of the more brutal scenes in the earlier series. She was well cast I think. She just doesn’t look like a ‘maid’ any more. More angry middle aged woman. I relate!

I think she is a fantastic actress and when I watch the first couple of seasons the absolute rage simmering in her eyes in so many of the scenes is tangible. I think the series has reached a point though where it’s difficult to take seriously anymore, too many scenarios centred around too few characters that it’s taken away that element of realism where you could/can actually believe that this dystopian fiction could actually happen.

The actress who plays June also directs some episodes now I think.

I think she has played the role well, especially in the first couple of seasons when simmering resentment and expressive eyes were the only way she could show anger at the repression by Gilead. They probably do use the technique a bit too much though.

This last series has so far been an utter yawn fest.

FionnulaTheCooler · 21/06/2025 17:09

She's a great actress but I agree the direction could be better. Far too many face close ups that linger for way too long.

Lolo2000 · 21/06/2025 17:12

Good actress but the faces drove me mad!

I've seen the final episode, hugely disappointed!

budgiegirl · 21/06/2025 17:16

I like Elizabeth Moss as an actress, but not as a director. It's not hard to spot the episodes that she's directed, it's any episode where she's glaring up into the camera in the final shot.

She’s a fantastic actress.

Dora56 · 21/06/2025 17:20

Apparently they were going to offer it to Claire Foy. Would have liked to seen her play the lead.

somethinggoodisgonnahappen · 05/07/2025 14:12

I'm not completely up to date on this series but I have to say I've found it pretty disappointing so far - no real character development and it just seems to be a rehash of previous seasons. Such a shame as previously I think it really pushed boundaries and provoked you to think about societal structures and misogyny.
