I work for the Civil Service but via a recruitment agency as opposed to a permanent role.
I am applying for permanent roles but of course they take forever. I've been rejected for 2 so far and waiting to hear whether I've got an interview for one.

I am apparently doing well in my role and achieving targets, manager seems very happy with me. However a bit worried as it's only a 6 month position, we're told roles are usually extended but it depends on budget, or converted to fixed term appointments of 18 months.

This won't be confirmed until a few weeks before my contract ends. It's more likely to be a yes rather than a no but it's not 100% certain, and I'm worried about things like budget cuts. I can't be in a position where I've no money coming in, just wondered if I should start looking elsewhere now?

Yes. You need to be clear with the recruiter of the position that you love the job, can see the potential but need to secure your own future. be clear about asking what the options are and timeframes. But it sounds like you do need to hedge your bets and can’t assume this role will be rolling and the deadline is evidently too tight for you.

Thank you, I'll try to speak to them.
Majority of people on agency are extended, some people have been here years still on agency!
But there are constantly new staff coming in and it worries me.
