These aren't street trousers, are they?

I saw these string trousers in the wild today. I know it's hot, but really? The woman wearing them was at the post office, not on the beach (or anywhere near a beach).

This is like string vests for men, right? Not really for day-to-day wear.

Have you got a picture as an example? Hard to say without knowing what they look like.

I think we need a pic, OP!

In the centre of Brighton today, I saw a young woman in the tiniest thong bikini with a crocheted sarong round her waist.

The sarong was so loosely crocheted it might as well have been made of cobweb.

Link while the pictures get approved.

My cats would love playing with the tassels though.

😂😂😂

They are truly hideous!

TeaAndTattoos · 19/06/2025 20:47

Good lord is that what’s considered fashion nowhere days.

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/06/2025 20:48

My 12yo DD was with me and said that I "don't understand Gen Z fashion". I feel so old.

I personally feel like there's no appropriate time or place to wear these... 🫣

Winterjoy · 19/06/2025 21:12

I actually really like them but would wear shorties (or leggings if colder) underneath, not underwear.

NotDarkGothicMama · 19/06/2025 21:26

The person I saw was wearing black knickers, presumably to contrast with the white trousers.

The tan lines must be awful if you wear those to the beach.

LlynTegid · 19/06/2025 21:28

Looks awful, someone's idea of a practical joke and yet some idiots fall for them.

SeriouslyStressed · 19/06/2025 21:40

How do you put them on without getting your toes caught in the strings? Surely you’d need to use some sort of plastic tube applicator?

I fall over when my toes get caught in the loose elastic of my old, tatty (but oh so comfy) knickers - I'd likely knock myself out trying to put these on!

NC28 · 19/06/2025 22:42

Reminds me of Christina Aguilera in her Dirrty era.

DeSoleil · 19/06/2025 22:43

The look like repurposed string door curtains that are meant to let air in and keep flies out. Perhaps that’s the same principle with these ‘trousers’?

Needspaceforlego · 19/06/2025 22:44

What ever floats someone's boat. However unfair to compare to string vests which were only ever intended as underwear

I personally don't own a pair. Like the PP, I would fall over or put my foot through the strings trying to get them on. If I succeeded (unlikely) then my cats would shred them. If they survived the cats, my tweenager would rugby tackle me to the group and forcibly strip them from my body before allowing me to wear them in public.

I’d be constantly catching those on things as I walked into them. I’d have ripped them so many times there’d be nothing left after a day.

I had to check out this thread as I'd never heard the term 'street trousers' before. 🤔

Well personally I think that they're absolutely horrible, but I support women's right to wear whatever they like. I don't think they're any worse than the micro booty shorts that were everywhere the past couple summers.

I can see someone with a more glamourous life than me wearing these to a festival.
Beyond that one scenario, there’s no place on earth for them!

It’s not the fashion- I suppose they are a minor nod to the cowboy core that is the current trend this summer but surely this is merely cheap objectification of women’s bodies!! Hideous

I support women's right to wear we like. I also worry about how much porn culture influences women's clothing. If I saw a woman walking down the street in a G-string and nipple tassels, I'd wonder if she was ok.

I made it up to describe trousers suitable for mooching around town. I'm sure the OED would be proud.
