Prolific rapist sent to jail

The Chinese Phd student has been jailed for 25 years, he is 28, so will be out when he is in his 50s, still dangerous enough to do harm. Should not the sentence be natural life?

It won’t be automatic. It will be a minimum and then reviewed to decide if he is still a danger.

I’ve just looked it is a minimum sentence. So he will have to show he’s no longer a threat.

I wish it could be a whole life tariff, but guess this was inline with sentencing guidelines. I believe it does mean that even if he got out, he would be subject to recall at any time for his whole life, if terms of release breached. Assuming he didn't flee the country, of course. Also sounds like the police are trying to find more cases to try him for...

It's a "minimum term" of 24 years, so he could be in longer. It seems to me an unusually long sentence for rape. Well done judge.

His lawyer tried to argue that his sentence shouldn't be too long as he is young and might change his ways. He is 28!
