To accept job knowing you will pull out?

DH has been offered a job at his current workplace. It's a contract renewal and not really ideal. Some senior people had to pull a fair few strings to get this offer.

DH has been verbally offered somewhere else that he prefers. It's a better job. There's no written offer yet. The current offer expires tomorrow and his current workplace are getting annoyed as they sense he is looking elsewhere.

I think DH should accept the offer because the other one is only verbal. He is worried if he does this then he will burn any bridges he has with his current bosses. What would you do?

I was told that it isn’t the proper thing to do, to accept a job you have little intention of taking. Me on the other hand would accept the job and then decline it if the other job offer was given. But I have no loyalty - a job is just a job. I do mine very well but I know I’m replaceable.

He should accept it if he doesn’t have a written offer from the other job

Accept the current offer. If he stalls he could end up with nothing.
