To ask what order I should carry out these tasks?

We’ve had to replace the floors in our flat and now have three big jobs outstanding - installing carpets, replacing skirting boards, painting walls and woodwork. Three different contractors carrying out these jobs. Which should we do first? This must be obvious but it isn’t to me!

Skirting boards
Painting
New carpets

That's what I'd do, anyway!

Install skirting first, then paintwork, then fit carpets.

Vaxtable · 15/06/2025 14:52

Replace skirting board, do painting, carpet

CharlotteFlax · 15/06/2025 14:52

Skirt, paint, carpet - same as everyone else!

Replace the skirting boards first, then do the painting - presumably one contractor is doing the walls and woodwork, and lastly new carpets.

Skirting, walls, carpet

Delighted to have a consensus on this, thank you! I guess I had it in my head that it would be tricky to fit carpet under existing skirting boards, or that carpet fitters might mess up the paint work? But maybe just making things too complicated! Doesn’t help that our house is in disarray as we move furniture and junk from one room to the next to rip the floors up, god knows how much more shifting we’ll have to do it enable work in each room…

Come on OP, you can work this out of you think about it!

Are you seriously going to put new carpet down before getting the messy jobs sorted first? 🤔
