Posting on behalf of a friend and I'm hoping the hive of Mumsnet will have had some experience on this. She's happy for me to do so.

My friend now lives in Queensland with her 2 children, her ex-husband had no interest in their kids when they divorced (grandparents all deceased and she's an only child) and he didn't object to her moving there with them from England several years after divorce and court order was signed.

The court order references that he will make payment of X amount per month for each child. It doesn't specify in the court order the duration but I think normally CMS has until the child has finished secondary education.

Her ex has stopped paying maintenance out of the blue and won't engage as to why. No suggestion from social media he is suffering any hardship. She thinks he's just realised she can't enforce through CMS because she's in a different country and it's costly for her to challenge.

She still has a signed court order. She's short of funds so a solicitor isn't really an option at the moment unless it's absolutely necessary; is there anything she can do herself at a distance to get payment restarted? The girls are settled, and she has a good support network there and she doesn't want to have to move back to England.

Any advice welcome! Surely it shouldn't be this difficult!
