Scary Tarot reading

Hope someone can shed some light. I read my cards from time to time. I’ve been through a long and difficult time which is drawing to a close and I’m looking forward to moving on. I did a 10 card spread yesterday, questioning my finances. The Tower was my first card and the devil was 7th card - in the ‘me ‘ position as I see it. All other cards were pretty positive. What, dear experts, does this say to you? Many thanks

It doesn't say anything to me at all! I can't understand how a random card can tell you anything. If it makes you question what's going on in your life then that might be a valuable thing but I just don't believe in the truth of anything like tarot cards.

BIWI · 12/06/2025 23:23

I’m sorry you’re going through a bad time. But honestly, trying to use anything other than rational, logical thinking, analysis and planning is a nonsense.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 12/06/2025 23:26

Kindly, it means nothing. If you’re going to worry over it rather than treat it as a bit of fun then bin the cards and never do it again. There are things in life that are out of our control, but I promise a load of munched up wood with ink on cannot give you any information about them.

TheSlantedOwl · 12/06/2025 23:28

The Tower can just mean change. The Devil can mean a situation which you feel needs rethinking.

TheSlantedOwl · 12/06/2025 23:28

(I mean within the language of Tarot - there is no ‘real’ meaning. It is suggestion, possibility.

Frequency · 12/06/2025 23:29

I think you pulled two random cards from a pack.

My mum swears by tarot cards. She is convinced she predicted my pregnancy with DD. I was sexually active, in a long-term relationship, and in my early twenties. She'd been "predicting" a baby for about 2 years, at some point she was going to get it right Grin

Due to my mum's obsession with magical bits of cardboard I also know the meaning shifts depending on if the card is reversed or not, which other cards come before and after it, and what type of spread you were doing which makes me think you're reading into woo that you don't fully understand.

Throw the cards in the bin. They can a person obsess about stuff.

OhLordy123 · 12/06/2025 23:34

All fair comments, thank you. I can usually relate to all my cards / readings. The devil just freaked me a bit. Maybe just a warning to me… to not be too devilish 😈 I do have a wilder side!

Not only ridiculous to think a packet of cardboard is going to help you in any way shape or form, but silly to put this thread in AIBU.

GrinchoftheNorth · 12/06/2025 23:35

fully appreciate not everyone goes in for tarot readings but.... it would depend on your spread/question and all 10 cards so no one who does read would be able to decipher much without knowing that

steff13 · 12/06/2025 23:35

When you're reading the cards doesn't it matter more what it means to you than what it would mean to strangers?

BashfulClam · 12/06/2025 23:36

You shouldn’t do your own readings. You are not objective enough.

TheNightSurgeon · 12/06/2025 23:37

I used to 'read' tarot cards for a living once upon a time.

They are so generic you can make them fit any situation.

They mean fuck all.

BeachPebbleWave · 12/06/2025 23:39

I am a little bit woo but not overly. I am also very interested in history.

Tarot is Victorian nonsense. I pay no attention to it. Googling how tarot came about from historical sources might help reassure you

OhLordy123 · 12/06/2025 23:40

I might retire the cards. Thank you for your opinions.

That Tarot, palmistry, astrology, tea leaves, mediums and all the rest of the bollocks are bollocks. It doesn't 'mean' anything. Stop frightening yourself over a random piece of cardboard.

Evolutionarygoals · 13/06/2025 00:04

I agree with all the other posters; tarot is nonsense. However, I can imagine it could be a useful tool to get you to reflect on your life/problems/circumstances in a different way. I tend to get into a bit of circular thinking, sometimes wallowing in my own thoughts going around my own little brain, and I have wondered if tarot could be useful for making me consider things differently. A bit like talking to a friend might.
I'll reiterate: the cards themselves mean nothing. But you could think about how they make you feel - if the tower means change then how might you feel about that? Are you feeling excited? In which case think about the changes you might want to make. Does it give more negative emotions? Then maybe you're actually in the place you want to be for the moment so look at appreciating and enjoying it.
All that being said, if they're stressing you out then get rid of them - they're just bits of paper.

I might retire the cards. Thank you for your opinions.

That’s such a sweet way of putting it.

Best not to have anything in your home that can make you feel bad.

Hi cat lady, Which reader from opendiarytarot did you have? There seems to be a lot of options?

zaicandy · 13/06/2025 01:42

Tarot cards are a load of nonsense. Same with fortune telling, mediums who prey on the bereaved, ouija boards.

Anything that happens or lines up with who you are is purely coincidental.

2021x · 13/06/2025 02:11

Tarot and Horoscopes is a method that can help people deal with uncertainity, but it is just a quick fix and can sometimes make the anxiety and overthinking worse. If you use them responsibly, it may help you pause and look at things that have meaning to you more closely.

However, I would observe that all the other cards are positive, and you may have a tendency to overthink the negative, and disregard the positive, maybe you should take a moment and think about how far you have come XXX
