Drunken mother on plane

Flying home from holiday recently and there was a family of 3: mum, dad, approx 6 year old child.

The mum was a bit drunk and was tickling the child who as a reflex action raised her legs and was kicking the chair in front. The woman in front says in a matter fact and unimpressed voice:

”can you stop kicking the chair, please?”

The mother started again to tickle the 6 year old who once again as a response to this raised her legs abd kicked the chair in front.

At this point started intervening and shouted “Kate!” at the mother, to stop tickling given the effect it was having.

once again the woman in front matter of factory said to stop kicking the chair but tipsy mum took no notice of anyone and tickled the child again. Child kicks chair in front again and Dad again shouts to child’s mum “Kate!! Stop it!”

AIBU to think the child’s mum in this situation is a selfish @!?£??

Of course she is.

Gowlett · 12/06/2025 17:09

Dad needs to switch seats with Mum.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 12/06/2025 17:09

It’s obviously selfish but it’s not the end of the world, hopefully it didn’t go on for the entire flight

pizzaHeart · 12/06/2025 17:12

I don’t think she was selfish, she was drunk and behaved stupidly.

pennyHD · 12/06/2025 17:12

I was on a flight once and the bloke in front of me kept play fighting and wrestling with his two young sons the whole time.

I think lots of people these days just behave as they’re the only person in the world and are oblivious to other people

thisfilmisboring123 · 12/06/2025 17:13

Well yes, of course she is.

Wouldn’t have possibly thought there was a need for an AIBU?

So are you the drunk mother, the dad or the calmly unimpressed woman in the seat in front?

Snorlaxo · 12/06/2025 17:18

Drunks are usually selfish tbh

Redpeach · 12/06/2025 17:19

Wow parent of the year drunk on a plane with your 6 year old. What have people become.....

XenoBitch · 12/06/2025 17:23

Yes, very selfish. I would be asking that she is removed from the flight.. right there and then 😏

ERthree · 12/06/2025 17:37

I really don't get why need to be drunk on an aircraft and i certainly don't see why a mother travelling with her young child needs to be drunk. Yes she is a selfish £*!%^

this is true I think, on many forms of public transport
