Toddler and bird poo

My 26 month old touched dry bird poo earlier while playing a game and nothing was visibly on her hand. I had no wipes on me as we were out so couldn’t wipe her hands. She sucks her fingers as a comfort and as much as I tried, she briefly for a minute or 2 had her fingers in her mouth on the drive home. We washed her hands as soon as we got home.

I know bird flu is back on the rise again!! An area about 30 minutes away from us has been given a warning and put on a 3km high risk zone of bird flu but the area I live in has not. Am I being unreasonable worrying that she may get bird flu from this? I am 30 weeks pregnant and not usually worried about these things but pregnancy has heightened my anxieties recently!

Calm down, it wont do her any harm Grin
Bird flu doesn't usually affect humans, she'll be fine

She won’t get bird flu. Most strains of bird flu aren’t transmissible to humans and even when they are, it’s exceptionally rare for humans to catch it anyway. Your kid will not get bird flu from briefly touching an old dry bird shit stain. She just won’t. Forget about it.

I'll bet it's not the first time she's accidentally touched some bird poo. If she plays outdoors at all she's probably touched other yucky things too. I know my DD did when she was a toddler, she loved to be in the garden and was constantly grubby Grin
Your DD won't get bird flu.
