Vote on laugh reaction emoji

Keeping it simple - vote for whether you want it back or not.

YABU = Yes, I want the laugh reaction back
YANBU = No, I don't want it back

Caveat: I'm not on mumsnet staff so it's an opinion poll only and won't necessarily change anything

OP posts:

Your voting is confusing. You ask whether people want the laugh reaction back but if the answer is no it's YANBU? Surely it'd be the other way round, as you're asking whether people want it back or not. Those not wanting it would then say YABU 😕
Anyway I've voted to say no, I don't want it back.
Seen too many people using it to be nasty.

I'm sorry to be that poster @L00pyLou but there's a board called Site Matters on Mumsnet. This post would be ideal for it! And it's read by Mumsnet HQ as a source of info for suggestions to change things for the site etc.

Otherwise like the PP said, your voting doesn't make sense.

And I agree with PP, it was removed because people were dropping the laugh emoji on posts about really serious emotional topics, and doing it deliberately to be cruel.

Yes your voting doesn't make sense
Ive voted according to what you said in your post but I feel ive been tricked into voting to bring it back when I very much DONTwant it back

I think you can change your vote by clicking on the one you meant to in the first place 🙂

I also voted YANBU but you are!

The laugh reaction - in fact all the reactions - are pointless.

Only the poster sees them, so it doesn’t create any context or add anything to the conversation. It may be a little boost to the poster if they happen to scroll back to see their comment or regularly check their notifications (I do neither!).

Once I’ve commented I move on to the next thing, I don’t linger around to see how many people find me hilarious.

We managed perfectly well without react buttons for years. Same goes for quotes and editing tbh!

A comment of a laughing/crying face, a bolded quote copy and pasted , a subsequent follow-up post clarifying that autocorrect said duck when I meant fuck. All worked perfectly fine for many years.

If only the OP can see the emoji, why do so many people seem to have noticed it being misused?

Are this many people silently bullied on MN?

Is it being misused or do people just not agree that sometimes their posts are ridiculous?

What about the laughter emoji says someone is being bullying?

Because sometimes people have actually said on some threads that I've been on that they've received laughing emojis.
Probably weren't expecting to be called out on it, but they were.

Bollynicks · 10/06/2025 11:47

Your poll is confusing @L00pyLou but I voted to bring back the 🤣 it's so much easier to post a 🤣 rather than quote/tag/comment and I've noticed since it's been removed threads have more quotes then just a 🤣 basically it's turned into thread carnage Grin

But what were they called out on?

I'm guessing they don't think theirnpist was funny, so could it have been ridiculous?

I have seen some absolute blinders here that make me roll my eyes so hard...

I seem to have missed the whole bullying aspect.

DoYouReally · 10/06/2025 12:43

I can't believe we live in a world where a laughing emoji has to be removed be cause some people are offended or hurt by it.

Levels of resilience are an issue - not a bloody emoji.

I only voted for having it back as I think it's beyond ridiculous that it's even offence or hurtful to some. It really is madness "someone put a laughing emoji on my post and I'm hurt by it". I mean, come on - where are the adults!

Locutus2000 · 10/06/2025 12:48

Fuck me, another laugh emoji thread? It's not coming back and the subject has been done to death.

Uricon2 · 10/06/2025 12:50

If MNHQ came to the decision to remove the laugh emoji based on it being misused by some posters, warning said posters might have been a better idea than removing it.

I've never used it anything other than genuinely and frankly, if it has been used sarcastically in response to a comment of mine I neither know nor care. I doubt I'm alone in this.

Septembiosis · 10/06/2025 13:05

Chances of MNHQ putting it back again are slim to nonexistent, so I think we'll just have to struggle on without it, somehow. 😅It was obviously always going to be used in a way that some people wouldn't like.

I want a 🐔cocklodger alert emoji, and 🚨MIL from hell klaxon
