To think job loyalty is pointless now?

Companies will drop you without hesitation. Why shouldn’t you do the same?

When was it any different? People should do what is in their best interest, after all, look how long people are expected to work for.

Im in my 50s, I have left two jobs in my life because they were shite. Its hardly a new trend!

Exactly, I don’t think job loyalty was ever truly rewarded for most people but there was this older idea that if you worked hard and stuck it out, you’d be looked after. That social contract has pretty much collapsed, yet some employers still expect unwavering loyalty. It’s definitely time people started putting themselves first.

I agree. When I look back, and think about the extra work, and going above that I did, and for what? I was not paid any extra, and was poorly treated in most places that I worked.
