Working 6 days a week- Fed up

Aibu to just want to do 5 days a week, which is 'only' 37h?
The reason I'm doing this is to pay off debt, it has been helping and I've only got 1.2k to go now thankfully.
Not sure if I'm right but I feel like in the UK there is pressure to do overtime, and your value as a human is based on working as much as you can.
I'm currently looking for a better-paid job, that's all I can do now.
Does anyone else work this, or even 7 days a week?

I work 5 days but I don't have debt sounds like you are doing a good job of paying it off. Keep doing what your doing and look for a better job at the same time hopefully something pops up soon which is better paid

I did this pre-children, as was in a low paid role and needed to clear some debts.
It felt like I was constantly in 'work alert' mode, but it got me to where I wanted/needed to be (debt free!).

Work feels like it takes over your life when you're working more than five days a week, doesn't it? I get two full days off a fortnight, but my job (which I mostly enjoy) comes with long hours. 37 hour weeks sound like a dream!

You're doing well if you've managed to sustain working 6 days a week to pay off your loan. 1.2k must sound much better than however much the original loan was! Could you drop down to five days a week at your current workplace (if you enjoy your role), once it's paid off, if you're still looking for something better-paid in the meantime? Either way, good luck 🙂

My husband and I did this for a season to pay off debt. It’s tough. It sounds like you’re doing well. We followed the Dave Ramsey method and listened to the Ramsey show podcast for a morale boost when we needed it.

I work 6 days a week.

It's tiring but I like my job and the pay is decent.

I think your thoughts on employees sound like something off an American centric forum where employers practically own their workers lives. You only need to go through my local town on a weekday to see plenty of people out and about in bars and restaurants. Not everyone is chained to a desk. It's just when you work 6 days a week it skews your mindset.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Going to just do it until I've got something hopefully better paid!

I disagree with the idea that your value as a human is based on working as much as you can, if anything I’d say the opposite is true, that your value is on earning the most you can while working the least. Most of the people I know who work the longest hours are not in careers that most people would want to do or would consider “good”.

When my husband and I were saving to buy our house we both worked ridiculous hours, every day of the week sometimes. No regrets, it was absolutely worth it, but it wasn’t easy.

I need to make more passively … but need money to fund my business start up!

I only work 5 days a week but I work 2 jobs. Have a full time 8-4 in an office. Come home and work 6-10 on a remote part time role. First job pays the bills. Second job funds DS university. I really need the weekend once it comes around and the weeks just feel like one long cycle of work, home, housework, dinner, work, sleep repeat.
