How many ounces?

sorry for using AIBU for traffic

I'm going to an event in a few weeks and will be leaving my EBF baby from 6:30pm til 11:30pm. In that time she might have anything between 0 and 3 feeds on a normal night. She's never had a bottle before and I have no idea what volume of milk she usually has. I'm pumping to leave bottles in case needed. How many ounces do you think I'll need to leave? Is 18oz likely to be enough to be really sure she won't run out?

That sounds like loads - I EBF and can tell you if she's anything like my 3 kids - she'll drink a bit, sleep the whole time and then you'll be feeding her for an hour when you get home so I'd not stress too much for a few hours. Easier said than done I know!

That's reassuring, thank you! I'm probably fretting more than I need to 😅

My DD is breastfeeding..baby has just turned 4 months old, and she generally expressed about 150ml (about 5 oz)at a time and freezes it in little bags. 18oz will be more than enough I would think, depending how old your baby is :)

However if she hasn't ever taken a bottle before, you might want to get someone else to practice (not you...she will want the real thing!) preferably when she is hungry and sleepy! We take it in turns to give one bottle of expressed milk a day to make sure she accepts it, (partly because I am doing Granny care when DD goes back to work but also in case there was an emergency; we did the same for her elder brother)

You don't need to leave 18 oz op for 5 hours, if you feed her just before you go, and leave on average about an oz and hour so around 5-6 oz will probably be enough then feed when you get home.
