To ask for help for ds19 to get his camp America docs sorted

Ds is off to Camp America on Monday (we hope…)

Two weeks ago he took a medical form that Camp America requires to his GP surgery.
on Monday 2nd he went back in to check and was told he’d have the form signed this week.
today though the receptionists called to say he wouldn’t.
they suggested going private. We were a bit baffled by this as a private dr wouldn’t have access to his medical records.

we’ve now made some progress in that he’s downloaded his nhs app so now he has access to his full medical history.

They sent us links to a couple of private clinics who are fully booked until his departure.

has anyone experienced similar? I’m unsure whether the physician requires face to face access (seems unlikely) or just access to his records.

thank you.

Why does your son need a F2f for them to fill out the form? Did he hand in the form to be completed, told the GP would complete it and has now been told his Gp will not complete the form? You would need to find out why the go surgery are not completing it- did your son ask when they called?

my daughters GP said it was private work and they couldn’t do it. Ended up booking a private appointment with a company called Just Health - they have mobile clinics all over the country and she had her appointment in a van in the car park at the Angel of the North which was very random but worked out - cost £75 but form all filled in and signed.
the GP did send her a copy of her vaccination records but I also pieced that together from her red book and NHS app

I’m sure that will be fine - good luck to him

We had this last year as DS has a medical condition he needed extra evidence but the GP couldn't do it for 8 weeks. He went back to Camp America and explained the situation and he had to sign something confirming he would forward the GP report as soon as he got it - I guess some sort of waiver. The GP report didn't come through until he was almost due to finish camp but the camp wasn't remotely bothered - I don't know if the camp even knew. He was still covered by camp insurance (when he had a totally unconnected minor accident). So there was definitely some way of getting around this as it seems to be pretty common. We were on the verge of doing the private doctor but didn't have to in the end when he went back to Camp America to query it. I had got separate insurance for him as pre existing conditions weren't covered by the Camp America insurance anyway.

Depends on the wording of the form. I believe Camp America ones ask the GP to say that the person is 'fit to go' which any sensible GP won't do due to the legal/insurance implications.
