Had an argument with neighbour about our dogs today. Admittedly mine were jumping at the fence I apologised at first but was so nasty and was standing on a table shouting at me over the fence so I said I'd report him - he then said well iv got loads of videos of your daughter (14) smoking weed! I was like what?? He was saying your a nasty family you and your vicious dogs and that all the neighbours say it. I'm literally in shock
dd rarely has people round and sits in the garden it's happened twice this year! She swears blond she hasn't but I'm scared this man has been filming us!
a few weeks ago we had an argument (me and DD) and it resulted in DD having a complete meltdown and screaming at me but this was out the front - I wonder if this is why we are a nasty family but now I'm scared she has been filmed in her most vulnerable moment
she swears blind they weren't smoking weed and that she wouldn't - it's made me scared on all accounts now

It's not illegal, no.

ButteredRadishes · 04/06/2025 21:35

You sound like a nightmare neighbour.

SummerFeverVenice · 04/06/2025 21:35

You need to do something about your dogs.

ButteredRadishes · 04/06/2025 21:36

Id be fucking annoyed at your family having stand up shouting matches in the front, and your dad is jumping up at my fence.

I'm guessing these weren't two isolated incidents!!

Hercisback1 · 04/06/2025 21:37

I'm not sure the filming is the biggest issue here...

Lostuser · 04/06/2025 21:37

Sounds like you are trying to play the victim here

Hoardasurass · 04/06/2025 21:38

Yes its illegal to have cctv that records any area outside of your property, so if he is recording your garden report him to the police

Greenoteao · 04/06/2025 21:39

I’d just concentrate on being a sensible neighbour, no yelling matches out front, no dogs jumping. Either she’s smoking weed in which case it’s not totally surprising they’re filming, they’re yelling, shouting neighbours are now smoking pot near their house, or it’s a lie and she hasn’t in which case no video. Work on what you can solve which is being a quiet neighbour.

Sirzy · 04/06/2025 21:39

I would be politely asking him if you could see the video because your concerned about your young child potentially using drugs.

No it isn't.

It is a technical breach of GDPR, if there aren’t any signs that give information relating to the data controller.

But not something the police, or even the Information Commissioners Office, would be interested in.

Lifeishardwork · 04/06/2025 21:42

I've got security cameras on the 3 sides of my house - I'm end terrace. Because of previous vandalism issues.
I make sure the cameras don't look into my neighbours garden because I'm pretty certain that is illegal.
My camera does record activity in the street outside my home and the police are OK with that because I only look at and keep film pertaining to the vandalism and antisocial behaviour. The reason for filming is very relevant to whether it's legal or not.
So if you neighbour has been filming you and your daughter in your own garden I would say it is very much illegal. It's also downright intimidating and creepy. I would report him to the police.

You'd smell it if DD was smoking weed and if your neighbour is filming yr 14 y/o in your private garden, then it's creepy behaviour. Contact police.

I 100% haven't smelt anything at all! I know my post sounds bad but the argument was an isolated incident - the dogs I am dealing with but it's not just mine it's his too he has 3 German shepherds and I just try and avoid mine being out the same time as his. As much as my dog jumping up his 3 are too!

Is there a bad neighbor bingo card? I feel like the OP may have covered quite a few squares in the OP alone 😁

I'm not sure why people are assuming the neighbour means CCTV

Neighbor could have filmed her smoking weed on his phone. Assuming he can see her do this in your garden from his window or garden or whatever then yes it is legal

I did think he meant the phone hadn't thought of cctv - if it was cctv I'd kind of understand that more as it would be accidental but I don't think it's cctv
