Playing music at night - is it unreasonable??

Andoutcomethewolves · 04/06/2025 06:42

My DH insists on listening to a podcast every night. Usually fecking wrestling, for hours. Apparently he can't sleep without a podcast on. I can't sleep tonight so have been playing some music (his wrestling stuff went off about an hour ago, he's been asleep for hours while I've been wide awake).

He's just woken up and screamed at me for playing music as I'm disturbing his sleep.

I know I'm not unreasonable 🤣 but just want some validation!

You both need headphones - you can get sleep ones that are very comfortable.

EleanorReally · 04/06/2025 06:52

headphones
separate rooms

CherryBlossom321 · 04/06/2025 06:53

He is very unreasonable for his double standards. Ear buds and/ or seperate sleeping arrangements.

Eenameenadeeka · 04/06/2025 07:09

I think I'd have to sleep separately in this situation

This!

Namechangedasouting987 · 04/06/2025 07:10

Err ear buds!

WayneEyre · 04/06/2025 07:10

Haven't you got headphones?

WhatMe123 · 04/06/2025 07:11

I'd say your both out of order, bed time should be quiet and restful I'd say and you shouldn't disturb the others in the house

MargotTenenbaumscoat · 04/06/2025 07:13

Why wouldn’t either of you wear headphones?

I like to listen to a meditation in bed to relax but dh doesn’t (it does the opposite for him) so I wear headphones, it wouldn’t cross my mind to not wear them because my need to sleep isn’t more important than his need to sleep.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 04/06/2025 07:14

I have a sleep mask with built in headphones so if I ever need to listen to anything if I'm struggling to sleep I can do if without waking DH.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/06/2025 07:16

He screamed at you? That says it all to me.

Whaleandsnail6 · 04/06/2025 07:28

We both listen to different things to go to sleep and I use a bluetooth sleepband with built in ear phones. Dh uses Bluetooth ear buds.

Definitely unreasonable to inflict noise onto someone else who is trying to sleep

If neither of you can tolerate ear phones/sleep band then could you look at separate rooms?

I must admit I have gotten into a really bad habit of needing podcasts to fall asleep after having a really stressful job and massively overthinking in bed so now I would struggle to sleep without it.

greenrainandyeetotal · 04/06/2025 07:43

All the above

or

hynotherapy to get you to sleep without music and DH without wrestling

get to the bottom of why you both need noise to sleep

change your bedtime routine and work on sleep hygiene

looks into your diet and cut out processed sugars and caging after a certain time of the day

yoga

lavender in each room of your house

you get the idea

I mean headphones have been around since the 1880s… are you both also the sort of people who sit on trains and tubes playing music and videos out loud and wondering why everyone around you keeps getting annoyed?

DontTouchRoach · 04/06/2025 15:51

You both need to get Snoozebands or one of the million identical versions available on Amazon for a much better price so you can each listen to whatever you want without disturbing each other.

Redpeach · 04/06/2025 16:06

Fucking hell, you two are torturing each other. Just use headphones

Absolutely not. I do have headphones that I always use outside but I find them uncomfortable in bed, as does DH. Hence the issue!

Try Snoozebands, they’re great for sleeping with and have functions so that they will turn off after a certain time if set.

I fall asleep listening to things and my partner can’t hear a thing from them.

Bluetooth sleep bands are a game changer for me.

I couldn't sleep in headphones either but I can't really feel the band when I lie down so get to listen to podcasts as ling as I want without disturbing dh at night
