A pub for dinner near Peppa Pig World?🐽

Hi Mums 👋
Does anyone know of a pub / diner suitable for a family meal very near Peppa Pig World? We are two hours away but going for a day trip next week. Hoping to leave the park at 5 and go somewhere for dinner for a few hours then get the kids in PJs so they can fall asleep on the way home. Don’t want them snoozing at 5 so have to ‘long it out’. Any suggestions? Any pubs with gardens / slides?
Really appreciate any help / tips 🙏
PS Not sure what to post under, so just picked aibu

Which direction will you be driving home?

puffysthename · 03/06/2025 23:12

Back up the m3 most likely, to north London

We went to the Empress of Blandings pub - about 6 mins drive from Peppa Pig World, and lovely food ☺️. Will happily go there again on our next visit.

(I have previously been to the pub attached to the Premier Inn hotel, also 5 mins from PPW in the other direction.... would happily never set foot in there again, food was abysmal!)

Mumof1andacat · 03/06/2025 23:21

There is a pub up the road near the premier inn called the vine I think. It's not recommended though. Food not great.

Happycow · 03/06/2025 23:23

@Mumof1andacat yes I went there - awful! Would not recommend it to anyone.

puffysthename · 04/06/2025 06:16

Ahh thank you all. I will check out Blandings!! 🙏

There's a hungry horse maybe 10 min drive away. Then it's 10 min to motorway m27 after ?

CoodleMoodle · 06/06/2025 20:43

When we go to PP we always go to Walnut Tree Farm, it's a pub with a carvery. We usually stay at the Holiday Inn over the road so it makes sense for us but it's only about 10mins from the park anyway. It has a little playground outside and an indoor play area (tiny soft play) and can get noisy but it keeps them entertained for a bit! The food is standard pub but fairly good and the cakes are lovely.

DepositSaverUpper · 06/06/2025 20:44

Sorry it's called the old farmhouse.

Walnut is horrible food especially the carvery. Always tasteless.

puffysthename · 06/06/2025 20:45

Brilliant, thank you! I will check them out!

There's also asda on route from old farmhouse to motorway if you need drinks for travel home.

There is a prezzos just down the road in a lovely old building in Romsey. 10 mins drive max.

JazzyBBBG · 06/06/2025 20:50

There are lots of beautiful ones - you'll find a good one. Can't remember what any are called but we've been to a few.

Hermie12 · 06/06/2025 20:55

We’ve been to the Fishers Pond a couple of times. It is part of a chain, Vintage Inns but we’ve always found the food nice enough and it’s a lovely setting

DepositSaverUpper · 06/06/2025 20:55

Luzborough in romsey too. Again not far.
But there's loads around the forest area , cadnam, calmore etc too

DownWhichOfLate · 06/06/2025 20:57

Chandlers Ford isn’t a massive detour and this might be ok: www.theclevelandbay.co.uk/food-and-drink/beer-garden

Lovely, but absolutely no garden!

APurpleSquirrel · 06/06/2025 21:02

The Potters Heron near Romsey used to be good - but not been there for years.

doodlyfiddly · 06/06/2025 21:07

There is a pub that does lovely food just at the top of the entrance road to PPW - The Mortimer Arms. Very popular, so you'll need to book. Large-ish car park. We go there often when we visit.

Timetochangenow · 06/06/2025 21:11

The Mortimer Arms is great, we’ve eaten there a few times. They’ve a large garden with an oversized chair mine we’re fascinated by but no play equipment. Definitely don’t go to the vine, it’s cheap but not at all cheerful!

Soooooooverthisnow · 06/06/2025 21:17

When we went there we camped at a place nearby called Carron Camping (now closed) but there was a pub called the The Lamb Inn that had a large tierd beer garden with all kids games at the bottom and the food was fab.

puffysthename · 06/06/2025 21:28

Thanks so much everyone 🙏 Really helpful!!

Can recommend The White Hart Cadnam, lovely food.Lots of outside tables,a small play area and a full size tractor to play on.10 minutes on back roads from PP and then only 5 minutes from M27 for journey home OR if travelling at peak time go via Romsey,Ampfield and Winchester to pick up M3.

Florally · 06/06/2025 21:35

We absolutely love the Dog & Crook about ten mins away from PP. It’s 50% traditional pub and 50% of the menu is absolutely the best curry we’ve ever had. (Lovely children’s menu too.)

Everyone we’ve ever recommended always says it’s the best.
