My DD has a friend and they are in y1. Her friend also has two older sisters. They live on the same road as us. We were walking past their house and they were playing outside. They came to speak to us and one said to the other ‘did daddy hurt you?’’ As she had been in trouble about something. The girl said ‘’no’’ But then it prompted the other girl to say ‘’look at her back’’ and she showed me the younger girls back. It had two very long bruises, in lines, that looked like something had hit her back. They then quickly said it had happened on the trampoline but it didn’t look like that could have happened but of course I could be wrong. Just concerned me that it was said straight after asking the other girl if dad had hurt her. The older girl also told me that their dad hits them on the back of the hand. Would you report this?

Yes. Tell the school.

Yes please report, keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility and these children seemed to want to open up about what may be happening at home for them.

Definitely report this to the school. Everyone is responsible for safeguarding. You could be saving a life here.

Of course. You should make an anonymous referral on line to your local children’s services team or online police report. Telling school is fine but direct approach is easier and school will be contacted anyway.

Absolutely.

Fluffybuns88 · 02/06/2025 20:17

It could be absolutely nothing.
And if you report it no harm will be done.
But if it is something it means there's chance for someone to make sure no further harm is done.
I would absolutely tell the school and have done in a similar situation.
