To just stop speaking

Every time I say anything in front of my family. Everyone, has to ask what I'm saying, even if it isn't directed at them, even though I clearly say the name of the person I'm walking to before I start, especially the 11 year old. Then they all have to join in having a massive discussion about the tiniest thing I have said. I'm fed up with it, so I'm just going to stop speaking. If I need to tell them anything, I'll write a sodding note!

I'd not go for a note. That was quite a tricky read.

Bit odd... Why do you think they are doing it?

I was in the same situation. I stoped speaking. It took literally weeks before anyone noticed. I then realised how invisible and irrelevant i was but was a wake up call. Try it and be willing to call time on the people who treat you badly when it becomes obvious.

Erm, isn’t that just having a conversation? Or are they doing it in a critical way?

Can you give some examples, please? I'm currently imagining something like "DD, remember you need your swimming kit for tomorrow" and everybody going "Did Mum say you've got swimming tomorrow, DD? You'd better pack your kit up, then. Don't forget to put a towel in", then embarking a long, rambling family discussion about swimming lessons and that time Dad's teacher made him swim in his pants because he forgot his stuff.

That sounds quite sweet to me, so I imagine your complaint is not like this.
