That My Deceased Father Sent Me a Message

Hi All. Ok, a brief background. My father passed away in Feb 2024. It was quite sudden but peaceful. He was a farmer, very philosophical and a wonderful dad - me and my 6 siblings loved him very much

Anyway, this weekend I went down to see my mother (we live in the city and we went down to the farm and my home place). Is this a miracle or what. Or a spiritual event from Daddy. Explain this to me like I am 5.

We arrived down at 1pm and I helped mammy cook dinner. I noticed my DH had left this phone when we arrived on the kitchen counter away from the table. My 2 kids (now teens) and us all had eaten and the kids left the table so it was just myself, Mammy and DH. Mammy was asking DH about a 110km cycle race he did last weeknd and I was showing her pics on my phone. “What’s that behind you “asked my mother, and DH said “it’s the mountains” and then I heard what I thought was music of a phone ringing. I stood up to look for a phone as I thought it was Mammy’s phone, but it was DH’s. On the counter.

I looked down and one of daddy’s favourite Foster and Allen songs called the Mountains of Morne was playing on DH’s Spotify!!!

I was floored.

And then I wondered did it find the song because we said the word mountain but Spotify does not play a song based on one word. And why this song?? My DH hates that particular music (lol)

Daddy played this song on a loop on the telly on YouTube when his health was failing and before he passed away…

He chose DH’s phone I think to show it was definitely him as no way he would have this song on!

Please explain this to me like I am 5. I genuinely feel I experienced a miracle. I am quite spiritual and I know (sounds a but batshit) it was a message from Daddy. AIBU?

I’m not at all spiritual and don’t believe in this stuff, but if it made you feel good or at brought warm feelings, I wouldn’t think about it too much. Just accept it as something that made you remember your dad fondly.

A couple of times when something big was about to come up (maternity leave, gap between one job ending and another starting) I have received some kind of email that I am owed money from my late father's estate. Once it was a payment that had come in for some work he did, once it was royalties for a book. They were smaller sums of money than they sound. But my dad was a generous man, and I like to think this was him giving me a bit of pocket money to help me out from beyond the grave. Thanks dad!

BloodandGlitter · 01/06/2025 23:06

YANBU energy doesn't stop existing, we're all made of atoms of the things and people that came before us.
Our energy carries on after our death, and perhaps sometimes we can use our energy a little more after our death and use that to reach out to those we left behind and share a little more love.

JustGiveMeWineNow · 01/06/2025 23:08

Ah OP I cried reading that. I am a great believer in signs and wee messages from those that love us and that have passed on. Some things don’t need explained.
Your Daddy had good taste. Love that song btw! “Where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea”. 🥰

Idealist3 · 01/06/2025 23:11

Thanks so much everyone!

I was thinking, so many people try and rationalise things away. I am a grounded, reasonable person but I genuinely can't find a logical explanation for it!

It was like my DH's phone came alive with a pretty specific song. How could it be another other than this? If he used my mothers, or even my device that would be different

I've been protected and few times in what must've been miracles.

I'm sure it was your dad, just saying hello 🙂

Sorry you lost him, but it sounds as though he isn't too far away at all ❤️

Most likely your conversation had activated Siri/Google Assist on your DH's phone and it played the song through Spotify

Yes .

Two days after my Mum died my phone was showing a voicemail message. I listened to it, and it was my Mum wishing me a good night, hoping I slept well and not to worry about her, that she was feeling much better and would see me soon. The message was left that evening. Her voice was really clear - she had had a stroke six weeks earlier and was difficult to understand. I pressed two to save the message, but when I went back into my voicemail, it said there were no saved messages. It freaked me out. I’d spent most of the past few weeks with her and there was no way she could have spoken and left a message of that clarity.

Idealist3 · 01/06/2025 23:25

I would have also said this nightgarden23 but

  1. Siri can not activate Spotify to play based on one word
  2. why this song?? Of all the songs with the word mountain?
  3. my husband is quite the musical snob and this would definitely NEVER be on his playlist??

I did my research here! I can’t explain it logically. I wondered would it pick up wifi in house for songs previously played but that not how it works. The phone was at the other end of the kitchen. Far away from voices….

I wonder if influencing music is somehow the only ‘sign’ that can be received? I’ve had similar with a niche old song like ‘Mountains’ - heard on a plane, in a Croydon cafe & then randomly on guitar in a car park in Belize! All within a month. I said out loud ‘ok, you are having a laugh now’! All
pointed to something I needed to do. NB: Am not Woo at all.

SabreIsMyFave · 01/06/2025 23:30

Awww, what a gorgeous story. How lovely for you @Idealist3 And I believe you! I love hearing stuff like this.Flowers

That's lovely, there may be some rational explanation for it but I wouldn't look for it, I'd take comfort from it.

honeyfox · 01/06/2025 23:37

I have had some signs and messages that I do believe in, but not for a long time now. One was a musical message also, at a time I was feeling very low and actually asked for a sign. It was an obscure song that I don't think I had heard for 20 years and never since. Just on the radio, it was pre-Spotify.

Gustavo77 · 01/06/2025 23:38

Simply, of course it was him. There's no other reasonable explanation. He popped in to tell you all he was still with you.

ShamrockShenanigans · 01/06/2025 23:38

Just believe whatever gives you comfort.

No-one here is going to be nasty enough to burst your bubble and state what they feel is obvious, even if you have picked AIBU to post this in.

Wow. Yes, I believe she sent you that message. The fact that it didn't save makes me think it too. So strange. A message meant only for you.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 01/06/2025 23:46

I would very much believe that's a message from the other side.

I'm guessing you're Irish? Maybe you're dad is asking for prayers, or to have masses said for his soul. We should always pray for the dead.

My friend believes she gets visits from souls in purgatory. Call her mad but she's a professional functioning woman of sound mind but she has had experiences.

Wow I'd be so freaked if that happened to me...

LoafofSellotape · 02/06/2025 00:02

It's your phone picking up on what you are taking about/location etc, my new one keeps doing it, it spoke to me the other day when I asked a friend a question and my home piped up with a detailed answer,I didn't even know it could do that ,was quite the shock!

Or it's your dad sending you a message.

Yes! My Dad is Irish Boundarygirl.

i have been thinking it feel quite arrogant of people to dismiss things that don’t seem
rational but we never know!

i am a rational person but some things, like magic we can’t explain!

thank you for your message ❤️

Name changed for this as my friends have heard this before…

My dad passed away over 10 years ago and was a consultant in quite a specialist medical field. I started having some concerning medical symptoms earlier on this year and was sent for a MRI. I had worked myself up into quite a state both at the thought of the MRI and what the results might show.

Lay down in the machine with the horrible cage cage thing on my face and the radio came on - the first song they played was my dad’s favourite song, Robert Miles’ Children. Am convinced it was my dad sending me a message it would all be ok, and it was.
