I don’t believe in ghosts btw and I think there’s an explanation here that isn’t supernatural, but it was freaky AF regardless.

I woke up and heard my daughter screaming ‘ MUMMMYYY ‘ from her room.

I naturally got up and heard her get out of her bed. ( however this may have been the dog). I then walked into her room and as I was in the door way, I saw her in the dark- walking out of her room already. So I didn’t even walk into her room, as I could see her right in front of me, wearing a white top. So I said, come on then and turned around and started walking to my room, thinking she was right behind me. When I got to my room, she wasn’t there. So I walked back into her room and she was in her bed still. She was wearing a pink top and she had not got out of bed yet and was waiting for me.

in retrospect the little girl I saw walking out of her room, was actually a lot smaller than my DD. Who’s now 5. It kind of looked like her, when she was 2 or 3.

anyway I know it was just my mind playing tricks on me, but it was still super freaky because I genuinely did see a little girl walking. In fact, I never entered the room as she was already on her way out.

Think I'd put the light on next time anyway...probably just sleep deprivation hallunication, OP. And either your DD did call out in her sleep or you dreamt it.

Burn the house to the ground.

Timeforsnacks · 01/06/2025 08:19

Did your daughter say what made her scream for you?

superwatranething · 01/06/2025 08:19

she definitely did call out for me. I double checked. When I walked in, she was awake and said mummy where were you ? Why did you leave ? Or something like that. And I actually asked her ‘ did you call me ? ‘ and she said ‘ yes I’m scared ‘. Which is a regular occurrence. I just asked her again and she said she had a bad dream.

OP this is so close to something that happened to us while we were on holiday last year!! We both heard our DS call for us from the lounge sofa bed, then we both saw him stood in the door way with his arms up, but he wasn’t there - he was in his bed asleep! When we reflected on it the child we saw was much smaller than DS and wearing a light coloured top (different to DS pjs).

We did not sleep for the rest of the night…

babystarsandmoon · 01/06/2025 08:26

Sounds like a lucid dream.

Nominative · 01/06/2025 08:27

Could it have been the dog?

Didcotdolly · 01/06/2025 08:27

Weird. I don’t have any explanations but am interested in why you’re so adamant there must be a logical explanation? How old is your home? Do you ever sense anything? I am pretty open minded on these things generally, but went into someone’s house recently and felt my stomach clench whilst walking through the oldest part of the house. It lifted as soon as I left. I’m not suggesting all spirits are dark, perhaps just lost but there was definitely something dark in that house. Read up about burning some sage to cleanse spaces if your scepticism will let you 😉😂

In a white top? 😁

How long have you been in the house?

Eldermileniummam · 01/06/2025 08:31

Weird

WakingUpTheNeighbours · 01/06/2025 08:31

You probably weren’t properly awake as you had been asleep just moments before. When you’re half asleep, you don’t know what is going on.

Tbf to that poster, one of our dogs wears pyjamas as he gets cold without. 😂

Dozer · 01/06/2025 08:32

Sleep brain-glitch.

we live in a new build. We’ve been here for 4 years.

I guess I don’t want to believe it’s anything supernatural because it just has to be logical ?

there have been other strange things recently. A few times now, I’ve heard my kids scream for me and when I’ve gone to check on them, they do seem asleep and in retrospect, the voice screaming for me, didn’t actually sound like them.

superwatranething · 01/06/2025 08:35

I think my brain expected to see her walking out. Normally she calls my name and then pretty quickly runs out of her room to find me.

CarpetSlipper · 01/06/2025 08:39

Your DD did get up, her pink top looked white in the dark and when you walked away she went back to bed? You said she asked you why you left so she must have seen you or known you’d got up.

Most likely “Jinn”.

Could you Google the term?

I’d second this. My eldest has medical needs and I’m often up throughout the night - sometimes my brain is just so tired/groggy/hasn’t woken up from just being asleep properly that I can totally imagine this sort of thing happening.

That being said, I might start house hunting 😂

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 01/06/2025 09:24

Your new build wasn't built over an Indian burial ground, was it? Do you have a tv in your bedroom? 😱

24Dogcuddler · 01/06/2025 09:48

We once stayed in a beautiful old cottage on a rural complex in Wales. Our two DD shared a bedroom on the ground floor and our bedroom was upstairs.

As we were falling asleep one night, we both heard footsteps on the stairs. My DH said here we go thinking one of our DD couldn’t sleep. Unusually there was no call of “ Muuuum” or “ Daaaaad”
The metal latch on the wooden door then moved up and down rapidly as if someone was coming in!
DH called out “ who’s there?” and the noise stopped. He checked on the girls who were both fast asleep downstairs.
Next morning we told the owner and she just smiled and nodded!! So spooky.

Hope you were just dreaming/ half asleep OP.

No, it was most likely nothing. Ghosts don’t exist.
