Who tidies up after a play date?

When your child has a child/children over for a play date and toys are scattered everywhere and so on, do you tidy it all up afterwards or ask your Dc to once their friends have gone?
In this case, 6 years old.

A 6 y.o might help a bit and the other parents may do a bit before leaving but realistically I would say the host parent would do the bulk of the tidying up after.

Boomer55 · 31/05/2025 17:57

I’d have just done it myself.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 31/05/2025 17:58

I always made sure my DC and their friends tidied up.

They'd do the same in their friend's houses too.

Pretty standard I think.

I have a 6 year old. We tidy up together once the friend has left.

Pinty · 31/05/2025 17:59

A 6 year old isn't likely to be able to do it alone.
I would help the 6 year old and the friend to put things away before the friend goes home

IReallyLoveItHere · 31/05/2025 18:00

I do my best to encourage putting some stuff away and most parents will see the mess when they collect and help out or try to get the DC to do some but it is the host parent really, that's what hosting is.

I never ever had visiting mums who came in and didn't do some tidying.

The kids tidy up 10 minutes before child goes home, doesn't have to be immaculate but toys/ craft stuff back in the cupboard then I clean after they've gone.

Nurseries and reception children usually have tidy up songs before they go home too.

Gundogday · 31/05/2025 18:01

Do it together.

JockyWilsonsaid · 31/05/2025 18:01

I always expected the children to tidy up after themselves.
(As in mine and the guest.)

All children plus both sets of parents

When mine had a friend round to play, they didn't get everything out and make a mess - if there were toys left out when friend had gone home, we tidied together. We had a couple of big toyboxes in the lounge and it was easy to chuck everything back in there.

Yes, same here.

I used to give a 10 or 15 minute 'warning'.

As you say, they get used to it in nursery anyway.

JLou08 · 31/05/2025 18:34

The host, won't the child be continuing to play in their own home when the play date ends anyway?
