Waiting for GP. Rash thought?

Hi all we couldn't get a GP appointment and are on the list for a call back today. My hubby has this rash come up on both sides of his torso and our toddler has it in the same place. I have felt awful for a week but have no rash. Both have had chickenpox. Not changed washing powder or diet. Both have antihistamines due to extreme hay-fever. I have a gut feeling anyone had similar?

Bed bugs?

NeedForSpeed · 30/05/2025 09:34

See a pharmacist.

productofhertime · 30/05/2025 10:00

looks like bedbugs

Mandylovescandy · 30/05/2025 10:07

I tried chatgpt yesterday uploading a rash picture like that and it was quite helpful with some ideas that I hadn't considered. Going to try the pharmacist later though and think that is better than GP

Lanzarotelady · 30/05/2025 10:15

Go and see a pharmacist, why does this need a GP appointment?

ScrewedByFunding · 30/05/2025 10:17

Scabies?

SalmonDreams · 30/05/2025 10:20

Impetigo? Hopefully not bed bugs. Where in the world are you?

Bumblingbee101 · 30/05/2025 13:31

UK. If it was bed bugs would mean every bed has them. I clean our house constantly and our beds are changed twice a week due to us having sensitive skin. GP asked him to go in as it was a telephone appointment. Pharmacist was unsure. GP has said they thing likely a viral rash or allergy. It's just odd it's almost mirrored on both sides of his body. They said if it doesn't improve within 24 hours or gets worse he needs to go back. Oat baths were suggested to dry everything up like with chickenpox. We also don't have any pets at home.

Bed bug bites are usually in a line, so from the picture I think it's likely not that.

productofhertime · 30/05/2025 13:39

the thing is that with bedbugs everybody gets bitten but only certain people react like this

Have either your toddler or husband been in a hot tub in the last few days?

Yes, it does look like 'Folliculitis' doesn't it? my family caught it from a hot tub on holiday years ago, it put me off them for life!

My son has it currently and he started out with a few spots like OP and now looks like this. His whole body apart from face and neck are covered. 7 days of antibiotics. Never again will he be in a hot tub

Well it won't be shingles as that stays on one side, right or left

Blimey, that's pretty bad isn't it, your poor lad!
My girls and husband had quite a few spots but nothing like that.
I don't think people realise the bugs etc you can pick up in hot tubs, we certainly didnt, but we avoid them now
Hope your son feels much better soon..

Funnyduck60 · 30/05/2025 18:27

Have you been away? DH and DS had rash like this after a Swiss holiday. I guessed bed bugs. They haven't been back to that hotel and haven't had the rash since.

F1LandoFan · 30/05/2025 18:29

I think it looks like folliculitis. A few of us got it last time we went to centerparcs x

Candlesandmatches · 30/05/2025 18:30

Post viral rash.

Crikey your son got it bad! I’ve never seen a case as bad as that before! The poor thing.

Igotupagain · 30/05/2025 18:48

Any rash on palms of hands or feet or in mouth? Could be enterovirus. More common this time of year.
or more extreme mpox?

In the old days a rash could be seen by a GO, certainly before 2020 after which point nobody ever seems to see a GP for anything

LadyRoughDiamond · 30/05/2025 18:51

Does look like foliculitis. GP husband is gearing up for hot tub foliculitis season - there will be a spate of teens in the waiting room in the next few weeks after post-exam parties.

fetchacloth · 30/05/2025 20:49

Where I live there is a 3 to 4 week wait for a GP appointment so people don't bother unless referred to a GP by their pharmacist or the walk in centre.
I've had to see a private GP before now to get antibiotics for a chest infection because I can't get a GP appointment quickly enough. It's dire 😫

Bumblingbee101 · 30/05/2025 20:58

@Threeeyfish I really hope your son is better soon what did they prescribe? So no hot tubs, no swimming pools, n change in diet or laundry detergent. My tiny toddler had it in the same place and his came first we thought it was his nappy as although we use Aldi Mammia they had a strong smell so we binned the packet. His have gone but husbands haven't and he has a few more tonight! We went to a wedding last week (without kids) stayed over in a hotel but I haven't got anything! Very odd!

Are you sure it's not measles?

Or it could be the body just freaking out in which case you need topical cream. It could also be an antibiotic resistant bug.
