To think my elbow could actually be fractured

On holiday just me and young DD. Yesterday I fall over, not sure how I landed as was more concerned for DD as she was crying. Turned out I scrapped all my elbow, cleaned it as best I could, put a dressing on it and left it at that. Wasn't much bother last night but this morning I woke up feeling unwell and shivering and with a lot of bruising around my elbow. Went to local MIU to get would properly cleaned and dressed and nurse queried that I may have fractured my elbow and has sorted for an x-ray tomorrow. It felt fine at this point and I didn't think I had fractured it as still has some movement, although not fully. I've carried on my day, driving, taking DD to the park and anything I would normally do (luckily injured arm is my left and my car is an automatic). Now my elbow really hurts, my arm aches and I keep getting pins and needles in my hand. Surely if it was fractured the symptoms wouldn't appear after 30 hours.

What is your question, as title and post have opposing answers? I think yes, it could be fractured, but unsure how to vote.

Just go for the Xray, then you'll know for sure. Don't understand your AIBU question.

I voted YABU as yes symptoms can appear later and your elbow may well be fractured. Glad you have an X-ray sorted, even if not fractured you’ve definitely hurt yourself.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 29/05/2025 20:15

I think you could still of fractured it. I fractured a bone in my foot and hobbled around for ages. The pins and needles is probably due to swelling is it all over your hand evenly? One of the dc fractured his elbow and had really reduced sensation/ movement / pins and needles in pinkie/ ring finger and sling bottom of hand as his ulnar nerve was compressed. Fully recovered though.

Well it could definitely be fractured, only way to know is the xray. Good luck.

ColdTofuSandwich · 29/05/2025 20:21

I’ve fractured my elbow and couldn’t twist it. Defo get the xray

I don't think driving all day with a suspected fracture of the arm was very sensible, OP.

Fractures can be minimally displaced and not as disabling/obviously deformed as displaced fractures but still be fractures and serious.

I would try and keep it as still as possible so as not to make it worse and allow the fracture to heal if it is indeed fractured and (easier said than done when on holiday alone with a child) try to rest it and not use it!

Fingers crossed just a bad bash and a quick recovery for you!

Hi OP, did you get the x-ray?

Outandabout43 · 31/05/2025 18:28

Yup, got an x-ray and not broken, just badly bruised

Ah well, that's good. It'll be painful for a while, I'm sure.
