Will time off even help?! Trigger warning abuse and mental health

My mental health is poor. I unfortunately suffered long lasting abuse as a child and my abuser is about to go to court.
Im spiralling! Im so miserable and often think about harming myself or just engulfed by sadness and panic. I think I see my abuser everywhere (it’s never him) and am often panicking at work and needing to leave the room which is highly out of character for me. I’m already on anti depressants.
My GP suggested he sign me off work but I don’t honestly know what that will do? Say I have a week off, the trauma and depression will still be there.
Has being signed off helped you with mental health issues?

It sounds like you need to be signed off for more than a week OP. Your body is in panic mode, you need to take something off your plate for a bit.

I feel like being signed off won’t make any difference but maybe I should give it a go. Thank you x

I’m so sorry OP. Are you seeing a therapist? I can recommend EMDR trauma therapy.

If you are signed off you can get out in the fresh air, go to counselling and focus on getting well. It’s hard to juggle that with work.
