As in, you literally are not thinking any thoughts?

YABU - yes
YANBU - no

My mind is racing after an evening out where I think I probably upset someone as I talk too much, wish I could turn my brain and mouth off sometimes but it just never happens . Makes me miserable

TheyreLikeUsButRichAndThin · 27/05/2025 22:47

Absolutely never. Ever ever. And things like yoga/mediation where you attempt to do so make me physically panic.

DH though often has not a thought in his brain. If I ask him what he’s thinking about if he’s watching telly, he’s only thinking of what he’s watching on telly. Wish I could do that!

Boxingshibes · 27/05/2025 22:48

Nope it can be a nightmare especially when trying to get to sleep. But I have adhd ( diagnosed nearly 30 years ago)
Typing this i can hear the words in my brain. Trying to go to sleep i usually focus my brain on a story/daydream or think of a picture and focus on that.

Sux2buthen · 27/05/2025 22:50

From the moment I wake up to the second I fall asleep it’s non stop. Many different things at once and as I get out of bed and walk down the stairs a random song in my head that will get stuck on a loop from absolutely nowhere. I brows me my phone to fall asleep because my brain won’t let me just be anymore

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/05/2025 22:50

Never, I do have diagnosed ADHD though. Bloody exhausting, and it’s never linear thoughts either.

Discombobble · 27/05/2025 22:55

When I get up to speak in front of others it goes deathly quiet, as soon as I lie down in bed it starts chattering away non stop

Picklechicken · 27/05/2025 22:55

Not empty as such but I find mindlessly watching reels on instagram of all sorts of random crap very therapeutic as I’m not thinking about all the other 28374744 things that are usually bothering me at the same time. Shopping has the same effect, but more costly!

DustyMaiden · 27/05/2025 22:56

No I didn’t think that was possible unless I was dead.

SweetSound · 27/05/2025 22:57

It never used to be, but I’ve learnt how to quieten it now.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/05/2025 22:58

No. But also I don’t really understand how anyone’s brain could ever be. Surely everyone is always thinking ‘something’?

PermanentTemporary · 27/05/2025 22:59

Yes quite often. More often since on weight loss jabs. Also when I was on Sertraline for 6 months, in the early days after id just started it I could sit and stare into space with my head full of pink clouds. Loved it.

Umm, why does this sound so ominous, quieten it how?

lostinthesunshine · 27/05/2025 23:00

Yes, but it’s taken 30+ years of meditation practice to get it that way.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/05/2025 23:00

Whenever the ADHD things come up on tiktok I always both think that I do all of them but that also surely everyone does. But maybe they don’t, who knew!

Needmorelego · 27/05/2025 23:00

Mine never stops and recently I have been having really vivid dreams so I don't even get peace and quiet when I'm sleeping 😂

whatthesigma · 27/05/2025 23:01

Me and my husband were talking about this the other day. Our brains are always on the go. Not just thinking but actual noise. Reliving conversations, what was said, what should have been said, conversations we are going to have and our brain talking through how it would go. Songs. Thinking about what we’ve done that day or what we are going to do tomorrow…but with a narration. Sometimes randoms tv/film scenes…..it’s constant. Our son has ADD and we are wondering if we do too! The more we learn about him and how his brain works, the more it seems to ring true for us!

ruethewhirl · 27/05/2025 23:02

Literally never, but I'm fairly sure I have ADHD so I guess it's par for the course.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/05/2025 23:02

Last week had a lot of post-Eurovision background noise of Swedish Sauna and Cha Cha Cha Euro-Dab earworming on loop through my head along with all the other semi-concious crap chuntering along and looping.

I'm never sure what's background noise, tinitus or my imagination. I like constant radio to give my brain some varied distraction therapy.

DH says his brain goes quiet. Weirdo!

😂 Sorry, nothing ominous at all. Just boring stuff. I use exercise, meditation and journalling and it’s been life changing for me.

LittleGreenDragons · 27/05/2025 23:03

No. There is always a voice chattering away. Except for once on a car journey when there was nothing for several minutes and I couldn't even think a single thought. That was very scary and panic inducing.

thatsalad · 27/05/2025 23:04

I am diagnosed, but was in denial about it for a long time because I thought exactly the same. I heard about ADHD symptoms and was like surely everyone does these things? Which they do, but not to the point that it's screwing up their jobs, studies, friendships, relationships etc. like it does for me.

It's like depression, everyone feels depressed sometimes, but you you are only suffering from depression if it has negative consequences on your life.

Never and always thinking of several things at once

MolluscMonday · 27/05/2025 23:05

Weirdly wearing earplugs makes my brain a bit quieter, not sure why or how!

I tried a beta blocker for the first time last week and that was LOVELY. Peace and quiet and stillness and calm. I wish I could take them every day!

OneFineDay13 · 27/05/2025 23:08

Mine doesn't shut up ever I wish it did! But I have adhd and asd I fa exhausting. Kind of like an annoying shadow constantly in your ear

Empress13 · 27/05/2025 23:08

No I always have a song in my head
