Does anyone else have days like this? Exhaustion

Does anyone else have days where you are so fatigued that you really can’t do anything?

I seem to have them a couple of times a month. Usually before or during my totm.

I’m so tired today I am off work this week and luckily my children are teens now. I’ve slept in late, could barely be bothered to drag myself out of bed so spent half the morning drinking coffee and scrolling but forced myself up at around 10.30, had breakfast showered and got dressed.

I’ve nipped out to give ds1 a lift and to the supermarket for snacks, then have been on the sofa all afternoon watching films with ds2.

I’m still on the sofa and can’t even face cooking dinner so think I’m going to order takeout. I’m going to go back to bed as soon as possible. I’ve resisted a nap so that I don’t ruin my sleep for tonight.

I’m not always like this and I feel quite annoyed with myself but I just feel so tired. Really hope I snap out of it tomorrow because I don’t want to waste my week off.

Is this just recently? I would see your GP. Hope your ok

Shouldijustleave · 27/05/2025 19:14

Yep. Always linked to my cycle. I feel really guilty about it because I’m not able to be an energetic mum for DD but it’s just a couple of days a month.

Happierthanever101 · 27/05/2025 19:17

It’s not a recent thing. It’s always happened but it’s usually just a couple of days a month.

I feel so guilty about it, luckily it’s not so bad now that the dc are older so don’t need entertaining.

No amount of sleep/rest/drinking water or coffee or healthy food seems to shift it.

I feel you on the exhaustion, but sadly with a toddler and a newborn, there is no rest days 🫣

Mamaof3x · 27/05/2025 19:20

I hope you feel better soon nothing worse

PiggieWig · 27/05/2025 19:22

Yep, I’ve been like this today. I think the change in weather has affected me. I feel like I’m solar powered and all my energy drains away when the sun goes in…

Peanutlicious · 27/05/2025 19:23

Yes I have this regularly. I find red meat and vitamin b12 supplement helps me, plus lots of rest.

Putthekettleon73 · 27/05/2025 19:34

Yes! Frustrating but it passes. Must be hormonal. I was like that yesterday. Totally fine and energetic again today!

MuggleMe · 27/05/2025 19:34

I'm similar, I've learned to batch cook when I have more energy around ovulation and accept things slip a bit around period time.

dottiedodah · 27/05/2025 19:38

Maybe low in iron? Connected with monthlies seems possible. A GP told me drinking lots of tea erodes iron levels.also to take iron tabs as well.as orange juice.maybe worth a trip to GP if no better. Always wonder if blokes got periods whether they would feel guilty if they needed to rest! Answers on a postcard please

Poobs2022 · 27/05/2025 19:41

Yes I am feeling super fatigued the last few days. Spoke to a girl at nursery who said the same so I do wonder if the change in weather has something to do with it. Even my husband said he feels so tired.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 27/05/2025 19:41

Yes, usually midway and towards the end of my period. It's like it just drains everything out of me.

I am currently laying on the sofa, was planning to go to the gym but my eyes are stinging so badly I'm thinking early night instead.

JDM625 · 27/05/2025 19:43

OP- when was your last blood test to check for anaemia, Vit D/B12 deficiency, thyroid etc? The only time I felt absolutely rubbish, always tired after work and slept in the day was when I was severely anaemic. Please get checked.

Jesswebster01 · 27/05/2025 21:29

I used to get like this I take ferrous sulphate tablets now every day and hardly ever get this tired anymore. I use the 200mg ones. You need to replace the iron you loose during your time of the month

CuddlesKovinsky · 27/05/2025 21:54

I do. I think it's a combo of: always being a bit anaemic (GP doesn't care so I take OTC iron every other day); autoimmune stuff (Graves disease); being sensitive to weather changes; being generally a hypersensitive person so even normal life is a bit intense for me.

I'm post-meno for ten years so it's not that, but honestly, I've been a bit like it all my life... so I put it down to just-how-I-am-itis, because I very much doubt the NHS would have much clue or interest in pursuing it...

Borgonzola · 27/05/2025 21:55

Get your iron / ferritin / B12 levels checked

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 27/05/2025 21:57

I definitely have been today - I’m sure it’s because it’s raining and horrible outside.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/05/2025 21:59

I get this, and I had it today.

DD who is 16 and doing GCSEs had it too.

I really think there might be something about the weather today.

tigerbear · 27/05/2025 22:01

Same here, have felt tired and ‘low’ all day. Been ready for bed since about 8.30

I simply couldn’t handle a toddler and/ or a newborn now. I had mine at age 30 and 35 and it was bad enough then- at 46 I would be incapable.

I really hope my energy picks up again after the menopause is over (I’m peri at the moment) because I’m going to be a fat lot of help one day if I ever become a grandma if it doesn’t!
