Does this sound like norovirus?

My 6 year old started with vomiting yesterday morning and then every hour after that, he couldn’t even keep water down. Came to an abrupt end around 9pm and he slept through the night with no more sickness.
He had no diarrhoea, even when he went to the toilet today his stool was solid (sorry for tmi).

The rest of the family including myself are still in the clear. Even though we were in the car when he was throwing up yesterday morning.

No. With noro you vomit multiple times an hour and have diarohea at the same time.

Amba1998 · 26/05/2025 20:49

Yes. Absolutely

Choppedcoriander · 26/05/2025 20:49

No. Norovirus has diarrhoea as well, often at the same time as the more or less continual vomiting. Every hour isn’t enough vomiting- sorry.

Dancingflamingos · 26/05/2025 20:50

First two answers are polar opposites 😝 that bodes well.
I’m just wondering if I’m in the clear yet or not!

Yes. Absolutely

To add. My children have always had it less severe than me. It doesn’t always present with diarrhoea can be vomiting only. Then the rest of the family usually have it more severe than the kids a few days later! Hope you don’t get it

urghhh47 · 26/05/2025 20:51

With noro i would have expected the rest of you to get it. It's definitely some sort of d&v bug (regardless of the lack of diarrhea). Keep good hygiene and quarantine him at home until 48 hours after last symptoms have passed.

notmycupofdarjeeling · 26/05/2025 20:51

No. We had it once and were much worse than that.

Dancingflamingos · 26/05/2025 20:52

Are we in the clear now it’s around 36 hours since the first vomiting episode in the car?

Probably not but maybe. We had it a few months back, one DC puked very badly twice then was fine, the other puked on the hour for 7 hours, then at intervals for a couple of days, then had diarrhoea for a week. DH and I had a mix of symptoms over different time periods and it took a week for the last person to get it.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 26/05/2025 20:53

It sounds more like rotavirus to me. The good news is that adults don't usually catch rota off kids, or if they do, it's very mild, like just nausea.

Social media in a nutshell! 😂

LowDownBoyStandUpGuy · 26/05/2025 20:55

There are loads of different bugs that cause D&V and there will be varying degrees of contagiousness and incubation periods but after 36 hours I would probably consider myself in the clear.

harijes · 26/05/2025 20:59

Just a bug, no diarrhoea.

that said, just to be even more social media, a lovely mum brought her children to school within 24 hours of them being sick all night and day. Managed to take out the entire nursery and lower classes, just at start of Easter break. We got it via nursery children, I bleached and dettoled within an inch of my life. The older two got it seven days later. SEVEN DAYS!!!! I’m still mad.

Dancingflamingos · 27/05/2025 08:28

We are still all in the clear at the moment. So hopefully it will continue 🤞

As it’s now 48 hours since it started. I know it can come on later.

It’s been 48 hour since the last episode of vomiting. I assume that means we are in the clear? As no one else is ill in the house. It’s over 48 hours since it started.
