Originally posted in travel but reposting here as may get more responses:

So I am booked to go to Mauritius in July (first time on a long haul flight so feels like a big deal anyway!) and have just been looking at the most recent reviews of our hotel many of which detail guests coming down with gastroenteritis caused by a parasite called cryptosporidiosis (there were no reviews re illness when we booked a few months ago). I'll call Thomas Cook on Monday to discuss but this would be very good grounds to change hotel if possible?! Or just cancel completely and travel to Spain/Portugal instead? I

know illness is a possible risk when travelling but I am reading stories of people being hospitalised and I am terrified of putting my children at risk. 😭

I am prone to catastrophising hence why I'm asking what other people would do and basically AIBU. Thank you.

i would go and ask. You can get it anywhere, search news here for the lamb cases this year. But it is resistant to chlorine and spreads rapidly.

I would ask to change hotels, that sounds quite grim!

I've had cryptosporidium and it's pretty hideous. It spreads very easily. I'd want to move hotels and I'm possibly too laid back about potential health issues.
