To not want upsetting news reports

I have a friend who I get on with really well. They frequently send me news reports on whatsapp and it really irritates me. A lot of the articles were to do with animal cruelty. I am vegan and hate animal cruelty and she too loves animals. I think they were sending me the news in a "how horrible is this?" way but I just do not want to read such things. There is nothing I can do about it and it makes me sad. I did say this to her and she has stopped sending animal related news but I still get a news report if there is a terrible event such as the stabbing in Hamburg. It is driving me nuts on two levels. One: It upsets me and Two: I do have access to the bloody news! If I want to I will look online/on the TV when I want to. I have often already seen/heard the news about which she is texting. Am I unreasonable to get so irritated by this or is this a normal thing for someone to do? Should I say something to her again or just send back "I know, I heard" everytime she sends a report? Obvs if the news was something like "there's a bloke with a gun running around shooting people where you live" I'd want to know!

You really can't think of a way of dealing with someone sending you stuff via WhatsApp that you don't want to see?
