Try to stay in bed so your body is rested and do something relaxing like reading a book. Nite, nite x

Squarestones · 23/05/2025 00:39

I don't usually clean but yes if I really can't sleep I get up and do something even if just write in my diary or make a list for tomorrow. Then do some yoga and back to bed. I find it better than lying awake getting anxious.
Hope you get back to bed and to sleep soon

Notabikerchick · 23/05/2025 00:49

You're a better person than me OP. I can't sleep and have got up to have something to eat, have a hot chocolate and play on my phone. Didn't even think of doing something useful (though I did out the robot hoover on, does that count?).

Springflowersyay · 23/05/2025 00:53

I don’t clean when I’m awake in the middle of the day! Not a chance at night!
Can’t you just enjoy the comfort and rest of being in a cosy, warm bed?

CynicalSunni · 23/05/2025 07:36

I once woke up at 4am and couldnt get back to sleep. So i baked a cake.

NattyTurtle59 · 23/05/2025 07:42

No, cleaning would be the very last thing I would do if I couldn't sleep. I might read, but nothing more strenuous than that - and like a pp I don't clean during the middle of the day (much).

wardrobesareblueandpurple · 23/05/2025 07:43

Yes I went through a phase where I couldn’t sleep (although waking up early rather than not being able to get to sleep at night) and I used to get up and do the ironing.

Pippypippipples · 23/05/2025 07:43

yes I do the same when anxious OP. I barely sleep.

Neighbours? Don't they mind?

Coffeeishot · 23/05/2025 08:19

My mum used to do this most nights she would just be cleaning things that clearly were not dirty, I'd rather lie and stare at the ceiling all night than get up and clean !

Mischance · 23/05/2025 08:21

I often can't sleep, but clean .....! Definitely not!!

I used to threaten myself with doing the ironing if I didn't go to sleep! But I got wise to myself & knew it was an empty threat & so it doesn't work now!!

@TheOpalFox nope!! Nothing so useful!

TeeBee · 23/05/2025 08:25

Yesterday I woke up at 4. Got annoyed by 5 so got up and repotted some tomato plants.

Hornbeamhocks · 23/05/2025 08:26

3am ironing usually puts me straight back to sleep.

JaninaDuszejko · 23/05/2025 08:49

Is this a one off or a regular thing? If regular you need to get yourself into a god bedtime routine, no phone an hour before bed, have a warm bath or a warm milky drink, watch an episode of a show you find relaxing or read a book or do some colouring in or some relaxing . If you can't sleep when you're in bed then either do a meditation where you tense then relax each part of your body in turn. Or, something I recently learnt about which works really well, the cognitive shuffle.

I definitely get up and clean and not... go hunting for snacks and scroll on tiktok 🙈

MMUmum · 23/05/2025 17:51

I get up and do a Duo Lingo lesson, or an online jigsaw, usually ready to go back to bed after about an hour

I do this on a regular basis too, I used to clean late at night and love it then go to bed late but now I go to bed and end up getting up and doing more than I intend, x

oldmoaner · 23/05/2025 18:30

If I can't sleep I put the TV on, guaranteed I'll go to sleep then.

MissHollysDolly · 23/05/2025 18:30

i lie awake and think of the long list of things that I could be doing

spanieleyes · 23/05/2025 18:52

Yes, I frequently do the same, I must have the cleanest bathroom on my street! I fall asleep very easily but, after an hour or two I wake up. I try everything to get back to sleep, warm bath, read a book, watch TV, don’t watch TV, anything! 3-4 hours later I’m still awake so I getup and clean! Eventually I can go back to bed and will fall asleep, usually about half an hour before it’s time to get up!

Nanalisa60 · 23/05/2025 18:59

I will get up and do the ironing if I can’t sleep!! Then when it’s finished I go back to bed and usually fall straight asleep to sleep!! ( watching the tv while doing the ironing)

GYBE4 · 23/05/2025 19:02

I was happy for a while when I had no neighbour near my kitchen because it meant I could do some peaceful late night laundry. Someone else has moved in since alas, so no more late night spins for me.

Me too!!!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/05/2025 19:21

Hell no! Apart from anything else, I'd wake everyone up by cleaning. If I were awake and really knew I wasn't going to get back to sleep I'd read or knit.
