i interviewed with a company on Tuesday and they said they would get back to me by the end of the week (today) but i have had no word from them.
They have another position advertised as well that I would be interested in. Not as much as the other job but it still matches my skill set as I have done it before. Is it rude to contact the lady in hr that I spoke to to set up the first interview to express my interest in it as well and explain how it would also fit my skill set?

I think it would be acceptable to contact her. Maybe ask her when you might hear about the position you applied for, as althougb that is your preferred role, if you aren’t successful you might be interested in applying for the other one?

Is there a closing date on the ad for the second job? If so, I would hang fire on applying for the second role until you know about the first. If that timeline isn't going to work, I'd contact the HR lady and explain that you're in the first process but you're particularly interested in the company and might also be interested in the second and ask if she has some time to discuss your questions in order that you can decide whether you would like to apply. In doing so she might encourage/discourage you depending on her thoughts from the first role. Hopefully they'll get back in touch on Monday anyway so you won't need to worry either way. Good luck!
