So without going into detail, trip to balearics 3 months ago, major issue at hotel where other guests accused my dad of theft (not true) due to the large group being so aggressive, hotel essentially forced my dad to pay back the money. We requeated to phone police they refused, requested CCTV but refused. We left that day as planned with a view to complaining on return.
Numerous emails sent to hotel to complain, all ignored.
Calls to hotel ignored.
Email to head office ignored.
Contacted tourist board who say get a complaint form from hotel.
Finally speak to a human at hotel who denies such form exists.

Am i being paranoid or is this a massive wall of silence/cover up?!

Any advice of how to progress?

Did you book direct with the hotel or was it a package?
How did they force you Dad to give them money?
What is it you want to happen?

LividRah · 16/05/2025 14:51

We're going to need to know what happened...

TokyoSushi · 16/05/2025 14:53

Did you book through a travel agent? Sounds very odd!

Noodleit · 16/05/2025 14:54

Oh bloody hell I bet you and your family was an absolute nightmare at this hotel.

Littledidsheknow · 16/05/2025 14:54

Sounds awful, but I doubt you’ll have much luck setting things right 3 months later, especially with no proof.

I’d be posting 0 star reviews everywhere I could though!

The other guests were a large group.

SurferRona · 16/05/2025 14:57

Why no details? Why didn't you contact police yourselves at that time? Basically you have no recourse or claim in this other country, paying up and leaving was a bad idea. Write it off. If there were other circs, eg your dad is especially vulnerable AND you contracted with a UK based holiday provider, you could follow up there, but from UK to a Spain hotel? Nit a chance!

FanofLeaves · 16/05/2025 14:57

Why on earth would he pay for things that he says he hasn’t taken? Did they use force?

Motomum23 · 16/05/2025 14:57

The form definitely exists its advertised all over Spanish tourist businesses.

Cynic17 · 16/05/2025 14:58

This is quite unusual, OP, so you and your father could be identified from this thread. Might be best to ask for it to be taken down.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 16/05/2025 14:59

How bizarre. They sound dodgy as fuck. Could it have been a scam involving hotel staff as well as the group of guests?

thst said, why didn't you phone the police yourselves? You don't need permission to phone police in any country as far as I'm aware. If it's about a language barrier then there are translation apps that could have helped.

Sadly, you likely won't get anywhere now so it's a hard lesson learned and try to put it behind you.

You could post warnings on review sites etc .

What a leap Confused

SpunkySquid · 16/05/2025 15:01

My first thought was instantly a scam.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 16/05/2025 15:09

How does they force him to pay the money?

HuffleMyPuffle · 16/05/2025 15:24

Why did they accuse your dad?
How did they make him pay?
Why didn't you contact the police yourself?

Trolleydolly123 · 16/05/2025 15:49

The other group were saying he stole belongings (he didnt) were being very aggressive and hostile, threatening to assault us, demanding money for the item, hotel staff were saying pay pay pay. We asked to call.police hotel refused. It all happened very quickly and we were unable.to say no.
Hotel have denied any form exists which I know is rubbish.
I want an apology thats all. And a refund of what he was forced to give would be nice but unlikely.
No we were not drunk.

OP posts:
scorpiogirly · 16/05/2025 15:54

How much was he forced to pay?

MoreChocPls · 16/05/2025 15:55

Why on earth did you pay? Why didn’t you call the police? Probably a scam.

lunaswand · 16/05/2025 15:56

why is this the hotel's fault? Surely it was a dispute between your father & the other group. Could you not call the police yourself?

Trolleydolly123 · 16/05/2025 15:58

It was me and my parents both 70 plus. We are not confrontational people and were shocked that we were surrounded by the group AND hotel reception with noise and chaos from all angles and we just paid under pressure. 100 euros.
It all happened in about 10 mins and as soon as we paid the group left.it was honestly so odd, hence why i am so keen now to follow it up but appreciate its too late.

OP posts:
NoBiscuitsLeftInMyTin · 16/05/2025 16:00

It sounds like a scam to me. I doubt the hotel is in on it for such a small figure.

I think a scam from other guests, dont think the hotel were part of a scam, but refused to call.police and wanted it all to stop so told us to pay to make it all stop. Rather than deal with it or help us, or call police. When we asked please call the police they said no as they will keep you at the police station overnight.

OP posts:
sciaticafanatica · 16/05/2025 19:00

You do realise that you could have called the police??
you don’t need a strangers permission to phone them

saltinesandcoffeecups · 16/05/2025 19:18

Of course the hotel wanted you to pay to get it to all stop.

You’re not going to get anything out of this. Leave a bad review if you want (but really unless you were all incapacitated in some way it was on you to call the police if wanted them) then move on with your life.
