My friend is in his 40s and sleeping with a 18 year old man he met on grindr. When he told me about it I said it's creepy and weird and he said he really feels attracted to much younger men, he can't help it. Apparently it's a kink or fetish for him. I told him to do what he wants but he needs to be careful..

I would judge too, but realistically the guy he is seeing is an adult (even if barely) and there's nothing technically wrong with it. I definitely thinks it's creepy though.

I've known quite a few gay people in the time leading up to my old fartness, of both sexes, and quite a lot of them seemed less bothered about age in general, either older or younger. I can't say whether it's because they are same sex attracted, they're just more age blind in their outlook or if it is about kink.

I just know I've experienced bigger partner age gaps in that demographic.

I think some people of all demographics are more open to relationships with much older or younger people than others. So long as no laws have been broken, who am I to judge.

To be honest, I think your friend is more than aware that some people will think he's a creep. If you can't deal with it, you will have to let the friendship go. There's realistically nothing you can do if he's not taking advantage of someone under the age of consent or a disability.

Does the 18 year old look like a kid? That's what makes the difference. If he's attracted to the 'barely legal' types, then he's telling you he's a massive creep, bordering on pedophile. If he's having holidays in certain countries, I'd drop him as a friend. If the kad is a Luke Littler type, 18 but looks 40, that's a bit different. He just wants a young, powerful body.

Ok, being with an 18 year old is bordering on creepy but we need to get past this need to call anyone who has sex with someone young a paedophile. A paedophile is someone who is attracted to prepubescent) children. Not 18 year olds, not even younger teenagers.

That doesn’t make someone who has sex with a younger teenager not a creep, but to call someone who has sex with an 18 year old a paedophile is massively insulting to the actual victims of paedophiles. Actual children who have no actual idea what is happening to them.

I wouldn’t like it if a 40 year old was going out with my 18 year old. But at the end of the day, he’s an adult. He’s above the legal age, and it happens.
