Donald Trump Dancing GIF by PBS News

Hey everyone hope you are having the most excellent day. I was hoping to do a family trip to the US this autumn but I am worried about how far in advance to book as I just feel like Trump is so unpredictable that any kind of civil unrest or ban could be in place by then. I mean I am hardly the loudest critic of his on instagram / X but I have done a few posts criticizing for more than his tan and I have read horror stories in the news about normal citizens being denied entry because their social media etc has been looked at. This is only a minor concern but I am just anxious because I want to visit elderly family before its too late. What does everyone think? Bless you all. What a nice community this is. Bx

I have family over there and am actively avoiding going whilst he is in power. That's for my own sanity as certain family members think he is wonderful, know I don't and aren't prepared to not discuss him when there.

There are so many other wonderful places to visit in the world I just wouldn't bother going there at present.

I’d avoid going for as long as he is in power.

Could your family members travel to Canada to meet you?

DrippingInGinger · 15/05/2025 12:02

Im in the same predicament - I want to go to Florida next year but I daren’t book anything whilst this mad man is in power.

your GIF did make me laugh though 😂

All my family is in the states and I have booked a trip for the autumn. I get why people might not choose to holiday there right now, but if you have elderly family you want to visit, just do it. I certainly wouldn’t be asking elderly family to meet me in Canada. Uninstall your social media apps prior to travel if you’re worried. But seriously, can you imagine the manpower of checking everyone’s social media history who enters? I didn’t vote for Trump, but we have to carry on living life until he’s out.

I think theres around 150 flights per day from the UK to the US.

Thats about 40,000 people per day.

I think you'll be ok.

I was wearing a Kamala cap in London yesterday and an American came up to me, said he liked the cap and went on to explain that he and his wife were so happy to have relocated to London. The rule of law is being challenged etc etc. My son was going to be there later this year but thankfully his plans have changed. I will not be going near America while he’s the president.

however you have elderly relations… had my son been living there I might have visited. But I’d have deleted all social media and been very careful. I’m just relieved I don’t have to make that decision. Americans voted en masse for him and that also makes me uncomfortable about them. They knew what he was like.
