Is it abusive to go no/low contact?

I am low contact with my in laws. Sorry I hate the phrase ‘low contact’ but not sure how else to describe it.

I did try my very best to get along with them for 15 yea, but years and years of fil trying to control us, being a nasty, sexist, obnoxious, pig headed dinosaur it became too much. There is so much I could say. I’ve posted about him on here over the years and nearly everyone consistently said yanbu. Mil not as bad as fil, but overheard her slagging me off for not being a stepford wife.

Dh clearly unable/unwilling to address it. I finally said I just can’t be around him anymore. Never ever told dh not to see his family, but suffice to say Dh hardly bothers.

I keep reading about Meghan Markle and Nicole Peltz and them being estranged from their in laws. The consensus seems to be that everybody hates them and they are manipulative abusers.

Is that how people always see women/dil and blame the women, even without knowing the full story?

Absolutely nothing wrong with it and something I do. I don’t block or stand in the way of my children having a relationship with them but for me, it was causing me a lot of upset and their behaviour wasn’t going to change so I prioritised my wellbeing. I don’t regret it and they don’t care!

It’s only manipulative if you’re doing it to manipulate them if you see what I mean? Like silent treatment to punish someone for not doing what you want them to. In most cases when people go no/low contact it’s because they’ve tried for a long time, the relationship is actively hurting them and they don’t see another way anymore.

Sadly I think women get blamed no matter what they do.

I wouldn't pay attention to that comparison OP, for some weird reason people just hate that woman.

Sometimes NC is the only thing you can do for your own sanity.
