To LOVE Ukraine’s Eurovision entry?

I’ve just spent the last 90 minutes down a YouTube/Insta/X rabbit hole looking up more info about Ukraine’s entry into Eurovision. They squeaked through to the final and there is outrage on X saying they ‘robbed’ Belgium (a wannabe out of key Sam Smith) and Cyprus (Morten from A-Ha look-alike).

This is (for me) not remotely about politics - just musically alone Ziferblat are superior. Two out of trio are twins. They give heavy 70s vibes. I felt like I had ingested a psychedelic substance watching their performance. Their other songs are fab. And their styling is superb. I’m can’t believe at my age I’m turning into a groupie.

Meh. I'm not really a fan of Euro prog-rock. But, in these days when it is de trop to criticise anything Ukrainian, they were always going to get through.

Ziferblat · 14/05/2025 01:06

They give slight Bowie/Queen meets Scissor Sisters vibes @Pyew . I’d urge you to google their non-live performances. The lads are also into make up and fashion. Wonder how that goes down back home in macho Ukraine? In any case I think they have a shot of being big after this contest. They’re not very Eurovision in fact.

I didn't like their entry. Too staccato.

I’ve added some images of their clothes too. They have a contract with Maybeline too.

I scored them very low last night, I think the “War factor” is part of why they got through. I also thought Kalush Orchestra shouldn’t have won 😳

Ziferblat · 14/05/2025 13:08

@ExtraOnions I totally agree about the 2022 entry. Sympathy vote robbed the UK that entry. This is very very different. I think these guys are very quirky and would do very well in the international indy charts… a google of Ziferblat’s Place I Call Home. I also think last night’s Bird of Pray song was wonderfully complex.

Agree, I wasn't too keen on the ukraine entry.

Not a fan here but Ukraine was always going to go through.

If anyone robbed Belgium & Cyprus, it was Poland.

Bonjovispyjamas · 14/05/2025 17:39

It's not great, but then again, I am still prickly over Sam Ryder 🤣

ExtraOnions · 14/05/2025 17:44

Poland 4/10
Ukraine 5/10

Not impressed with either

You liked the Ukrainian entry? Crikey, it really didn't do it for me at all. I am surprised it got through.

Outrage! Belgium were not robbed. He was dreadful. The worst of the night. When I drew up my personal list of who should go Belgium was right at the top.

Cyprus was on that list too.
As were Slovenia and Azerbaijan, so I did OK I think getting 4 out of 5 right.

My 5th choice for being thrown out was between Ukraine and Portugal.
