to not go today?

Have an all day course today (supplementary training rather than essential) but have been up and down all night with awful bleeding (RIP new bedding 😭) and pain due to ongoing issues with mirena coil - awaiting scan and follow up with gynae in 2 weeks. Can't get a GP appt for stronger pain relief so am taking otc co-codamol which works but makes me drowsy. I am walking slightly bent over due to the pain.

I really struggle with calling in sick due to my upbringing (forced to go to school even when genuinely ill, no sympathy for sickness just "get on with it" mindset) and I get anxious that any time off will be held against me. My sickness record is very good.

AIBU to not attend? I just want to stay in bed with my hot water bottle 😟.

Of course you shouldn’t go! As someone who has the same mindset about you as sickness, consider this ‘permission’ (something I feel I need - yes I’m in therapy 😂) to not go today and tuck yourself back up in bed!

AppleKatie · 13/05/2025 06:19

If you are doubled over with pain you can’t go in.

BohoShrimp · 13/05/2025 06:22

@GoodGollyMissDolly I almost titled the thread 'Please give me permission to not go' 🤐. What is wrong with us?!

Thank you both.

Sympathies to you.hope you feel better soon.i would stay home.you have nothing to feel guilty about. Have a duvet day.Paramol is a good painkiller. To try .takes the edge off.Obviously instead of co codamol, ask chemist for advice as well .sending love xx

You're not fit for work because you won't be able to concentrate, so it would be a waste of time. If you have to drive to work that would also be a bad idea in that state.

Make the call and back to bed.

fancyfrogs · 13/05/2025 06:32

Sorry I’ve accidentally voted wrong - you are definitely NOT being unreasonable and shouldn’t go. Have a day in bed, you need it. Hugs x

Tonkerbea · 13/05/2025 06:34

Do not go in! You need to rest

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 13/05/2025 06:35

Another person like you who needs 'permission'.

You are not well, do not go in. Call in sick and go back to bed.

Feel better soon.

Goinggreymammy · 13/05/2025 07:12

Definitely stay in bed. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

CoolaSchmoola · 13/05/2025 07:16

I'm a learning and development head - and I would absolutely not expect anyone to go to work or training in your position, even if it was essential. We can always rearrange or find an alternative.

Back to bed, I really hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Have phoned my manager and she has ordered me back to bed. I now feel able to allow myself to be unwell.
