To plan date ahead after a week long work trip?

I am in a newish relationship. We both work away and logistics are tricky.
He will have been working away for two weeks come next week. I am expecting him to make some kind of arrangement in advance of his return but am I being unreasonable?
I have a busy schedule of my own, and am not inclined to keep the whole week of his return free.

You're being unreasonable if you're expecting him to make an arrangement to fit in with your plans if you haven't already told him your availability. If you have then I can't see why you'd have to keep the whole week free to be available. Maybe stop expecting him to plan things to suit you and actually communicate with the guy.

If you're expecting him to organise something, then tell him that, as previous poster said, and at the same time, tell him what days you'll be available, communication is key, in ANY relationship. Why do so many people think that other's can read their minds?

I would say
Hi x,
I know you’re away from xx, naturally I’m very busy, I could do xx dates, on your return,it would be helpful to know in advance.
Let me know your thoughts

Sent this. Have arranged something for next week. I totally lost perspective.
