I'm so bloody angry & sad.
The Equality Act 2010, as clarified by the Supreme Court in 2025, was specifically and purposely written so we could have specific single sex spaces where needed.
Women and girls are subject to much male violence incluing sexual violence - both at home, work & out in the wider world. Men are the perpetrators of the vast majority of such violent acts to women and girls.
We cannot tell from looking which men are harmful - men don't have mysognist, rapist or violent man tattoed on their foreheads.
We also know that men with a trans identity are, as a group, significantly more likely to be in jail for a sex offence than the rest of the male prison population.
When the EA2010 was written this threat to women and our need to have space away from men was acknowledged and womens spaces were provided for and protected.
It can be hugely traumatising for victims of male violence to go about their day, their jobs etc.
And now we are reading of the most horrendous sexual abuse suffered by Karen Danson as a child.
Karen's employers - an NHS Trust - not only forced her to change and share female facilities with a man, once she was in a dispute with her employer about their law breaking policy, the NHS scheduled the same man to be in the theater when she was unconscious & having a very serious medical procedure.
The same NHS declared her a bigot for objecting.
One of the reasons we have these single sex spaces is so women and girls who are survivors of male violence are not further retraumatised by sharing spaces with men, epsecially where they might be vulnerable.
No one should have to disclose the dreadful crimes perpetrated against them, the violence they have suffered, in order to access spaces they are legally entitled to access.
Spaces that have been carved out for them, that entitled men have sought to take from themselves cause they have "ladyfeels" & "ladydick".
Karen Danson is exceptionally brave in sharing her story - but she should not have to do it. We know millions of women/girls are survivors of male violence - again no one can tell from looking and women should never have to disclose this infomation to access their basic rights.
The law is there for all women/girls & Karen & other women should not have to go through this horrendous process to access what they are legally entitled to access.
As for idiots like GLP, TRA's and others who are fighting to get men into womens spaces - there are no words (well none I can express on MN).
AIBU to be so bloody furious.
