To feel discriminated against!

Lighthearted!

AIBU to feel discriminated against because I bought a really nice kettle at the weekend.

I made a cup of tea in the morning for myself and DH and caught sight of our old kettle and felt ashamed. We have had it for a very long time!

So off to Tesco, find a lovely Russell Hobbs kettle, on sale, same colour scheme as my kitchen. I’m happy!

Got home, put the old one out for recycling!

Unpack and plug in new kettle, it looks so nice, the Russel Hobbs logo is well done and discreet. And then I turn it around, because that is the way I position it as a left handed person and, there is no Russell Hobbs logo.

Now I am not desperate for a logo or label. Everything is branded and labelled now days. So I could see myself as fortunate. But you get my point don’t you?

Obviously this is not the first time, but I have enjoyed having a little strop about it with my right handed family this weekend. They resorted
to looking at me as if I’m crazy.

AIBU?

I don’t think your family looking at you like you’re crazy has anything to do with them being right handed.

CaptainFuture · 11/05/2025 20:51

Are you the only one who uses the kettle? I'd say majority rules.... most family right handers then the logos orientated for them!

UpsideDownChairs · 11/05/2025 20:54

You want people to be able to see the brand of your kettle, and that brand is Russell Hobbs?

I'm afraid it's you that's gone a bit doolally - it's just a kettle, same brand lots of people have ...

Now the thread needs a photo of the kettle!!

No nothing to do with them being right handed. BUT might be because I am left handed …. OR…. because I am having a reaction to
my new kettle, or because they might actually think I am crazy.

I think there is left handed discrimination, but this isn’t it. It’s not as if RH is a flash brand you’d need to show off.

I know, I did think about buying a Smeg but just couldn’t justify it. I wonder if Smeg brands on both sides.

I feel you. Mine sits under cupboards so when I pull it out to boil i just swizz it round then place back nicely afterwards 😊

Mugs annoy me. We are a majority lefthanded household so I have everything in the kitchen arranged left handed and have left handed scissors and a left handed breadknife (and secateurs for the garden which are life changing).
