Birthday gifting .. Any thoughtful / creative / well received gift ideas you have gifted that you are happy to share on here? Especially to mark big birthdays? Sometimes feel like I run out of ideas completely (birthdays are every year after all) and end up buying the same stuff again and again. (I don’t have a big enough budget for trips away)

I dislike the word "gift", which means poison in German :-)
Birthday presents can be a challenge. If I am unsure or don't have an immediate idea, then I look at the person's interests and see if I can find something that fits.
The last physical present I gave was to a long-standing friend whose 70th birthday it was. As I know she is a big fan of Italy and is also interested in Ayurveda as well as being a very good cook, I gave her Theo Randall's latest cookery book as well as a Sri Lankan one.
We don't live in the UK, so I knew it was highly unlikely that she would have or even have heard of either.
Come to think of it, I do often give books as presents. In this digital/instant age a lot of people appreciate something "tangible".
I also give presents of wine, from the area I live in, to those, who would appreciate them.
If in doubt, flowers usually go down well. I have even given my father flowers in the past, he was delighted.
