Does a hall include the stairwell and landing?

DH are having a daft but annoying disagreement about repainting “the hall.”

My point of view is as our hall runs into the stairwell, it would be a bit weird to only do the downstairs (albeit there is some arketrave between the hall and the stairwell which kinda divides the room). I think we should also do the stairwell and this means also doing the upstairs landing. Which is not an insignificant area and would cost a lot more.

DH thinks I’m being ridiculous and should stick to only painting the downstairs hall bit. But maybe also a wall by the stairs because that’s a bit minging. But he thinks we should not paint the upstairs landingbecause we have loads of doors which also need doing and it would be too expensive as a result.

IABU - Just paint the “hall”

Re-reading this makes me realise we are both being dumb having an argument about this!! But still, I think he’s wrong 😬

So emulsioning and glossing are seperate jobs. If you are doing it yourselves, do all the emulsioning. If paying someone, all of it.

I'd say "hall, stairs and landing" is an expression I've heard several times, so they're separate.

But I'd probably choose to paint them all at the same time because they're the same colour.

So, we are actually just having our hall done which includes hall, stairs and landing.

Is there one wall that goes all the way from downstairs to upstairs? There is in mine so I consider the whole thing one job (downstairs hall, stair way, upstairs hall)… hence why I haven’t done mine for ages because it’s such a big job!
