Anyone had AirPods repaired?

Posting here for traffic.

My left AirPod has reduced volume and I’ve tried everything online to fix it myself - fully cleaned both, charged them and the case to 100%, reset them, unpaired them from my phone etc and still no luck. I’m not really able to use them properly, only by adjusting the balance heavily in the left one’s favour which reduces the overall volume capability.

Sendind them directly to Apple from home will cost £160. I could get them looked at in an Apple Store for free, but I suspect they’ll only do what I’ve already tried, and want to send them to the service centre which will cost me.

I need them for a holiday at the end of June so I’m wondering whether it’s really worth travelling to the Apple Store in the hope they can fix it in store, or whether to cut my losses and order a second hand pair from CEX for £80.

Anyone got any experience of the process with Apple - cost and turnaround time?

I’m not recommending this but I had the same problem with poor sound in one of them. I accidentally left it in my pocket and it went through the washing machine. This fixed it and it’s been fine ever since!

Corr that’s risky! I’m tempted though
