Will I be reported for pulling out in front of someone?

I’m not sure what happened while I was driving but I had to pull out at a junction.. it was a bit ambiguous whether I could or not as there were roadworks barriers to go past so I went slowly, saw there were cyclists so waited and then pulled out. I thought I had ages with the traffic up the road but just after I got out someone behind me beeped, he looked absolutely mad. I have no idea if I maybe pulled out in front of them, I thought it was clear though. I made them the what have I done wrong gesture and when he continued to shake his hands and look angry pulled stopped the car (on the side of the road) in case something was wrong and I hadn’t noticed. It was a 30mph town road but empty in front. He passed me, looked at me and said something and looked furious. I have no idea if I did something wrong. I look pretty young (I’m not seventeen, but I do look it) so I think they were just being an ass.

Report you to who?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 03/05/2025 20:02

Shit happens. Don’t worry about it.

MathiasBroucek · 03/05/2025 20:04

You are worrying unnecessarily. People get angry in their cars all the time.

It sounds like you made a genuine mistake, some folk are just grumpy sods and act like they're perfect behind the wheel. I'm not sure who he'd report you to (the police?) but I highly doubt they'd be interested.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/05/2025 20:06

Happens all the time. Don't worry about it.

Cc7505 · 03/05/2025 20:10

thanks so much - this makes me feel better! I worry about dashcam footage or something.. I think he was just angry because I was being slow making sure I could definitely use the road as it was access only (I needed access), I’m just worrying maybe I pulled out thinking it was clear and I missed him, or I shouldn’t have stopped. I’ve only been passed a month 😅

Are you sure he wasn't behind you on your original road ? Maybe you were too slow for his liking but you were being careful. Try to forget it. Prat.

Moveoverdarlin · 03/05/2025 20:22

It sounds more like he was behind you prior to the junction and was pissy you were taking too long to go. I wouldn’t worry about it. He can’t report you to the Police, imagine how inundated they would be if people could do this every time they encountered some crap driving.

He sounds like a tosser. You’ll get used to it. Always better to be cautious if you’re not sure.

KittytheHare · 03/05/2025 20:24

As others have said, forget all about it. This kind of thing happens to all of us at some stage.

lnks · 03/05/2025 20:26

Some men will find any excuse to get angry with women. Don’t give it another thought.

AquaPeer · 03/05/2025 20:28

You won’t get reported. Even if you did, you’re allowed to make mistakes! Try not to worry, it happens.

PonyPatter44 · 03/05/2025 20:29

I was going to be rude about overly anxious drivers, but then I dawn you only passed your test a month ago. Honestly, don't worry. He won't report you, he's just a bit of a twit.

Lnew · 03/05/2025 20:32

Making an error like that (if indeed it was an error) is not a crime. Even if it’s on dashcam, it’s just not a crime.

Cc7505 · 03/05/2025 20:33

Thank you so much for all the replies - this has really helped! I’m trying to be less cautious but it’s a very busy city area so I’ve been thrown in the deep end a bit! He was definitely a prat, at the very least I looked very young and anxious when I realised something had gone wrong and he could have been kinder!

Try not to worry about it - although reporting by dashcam does happen - I got a notice of intention of prosecution last week as I had pulled out of a junction and thought I had time, still do , but someone with a dashcam has reported me to the police - I’m just awaiting what will happen and have requested to see the footage. I’m really anxious about it but hoping will be an awareness course. I have been driving over 20 years and this is the first time it has happened so I’m sure you will be fine and they didn’t have a dashcam. Some people are just aggressive angry drivers and he was taking it out on you
