Water softners , where to buy?

I'm looking to get a water softner for my shower , I live in a hard water area and it's ruining my hair .
I've been washing my hair recently with bottled water to see if it makes a difference and it does , my hair isn't as greasy/dry and itchy and I can go longer between washes .

I've tried the water filter heads for showers and it doesn't work .

I also live in rented accommodation.

Any advice ?

The only ones which work are plumbed in so that they divert water coming into the property through the softener and then into the pipes/tank for use. We've had one for years, cost a couple of thousand for installation (slightly complex plumbing needed) and wouldn't be without it. You'll probably need to talk to your landlord if you want to have one fitted - they might go for it if they own the washing machine and dishwasher (if you have them) as it will help them last longer.....
