Rotavirus Vaccine

My son has been suffering with a painful stomach ever since the 8 week rotavirus vaccine 4 weeks ago. Anyone else had a simular problem and does it eventually get better. It's like really bad gas but worse. U can almost hear it move inside of him and he spends most of his waking day just crying now. I tried to tell the doctor this at his 8 week check up which he ended up having a little late and she totally dismissed me and said she doubts its the vaccine even though he was absolutely fine before he had it. I find he is straining all the time also now.

My baby didn't experience this with either dose (think you get another one at 12 weeks)

Have you tried baby massage for wind?

Yes iv done everything. Infacol, gripe water, massages. Nothing relieves it. I feel like it's inflamed the way he reacts and the way I hear his stomach if that makes any sense. Uv made a phone appointment tomorrow to see if they suggest anything or can look into for me

My baby had his second dose last week and has had a bad tummy since the first dose, doesn’t seem to be getting any better. I don’t remember my other children reacting like this

My little boy had a really upset stomach after both doses. Bad wind, diarrhoea and tummy ache. It was awful and lasted a couple of weeks both times. I remember telling the nurse and she didn't seem concerned at all. 4 weeks sounds like a long time for your little one to be poorly for though. Can you speak to a different doctor?

I'm speaking to a different one today. Hopefully she doesn't dismiss it as its not fair seeing him like this when he's usually so smiley and happy

I'm sorry your baby is suffering, it's horrible to see. I had a DC who would scream for hours in the night with wind and yes, I could hear it moving though them, too. But it's also very common for colicky and windy symptoms too start around the 6-10 week period, so the timing of the vaccine is probably coincidental. You would probably get better advice if you asked your GP/HV about how to manage those things rather than blaming the vaccine.

If he's formula fed, you could try changing formula. Does he have any CMPA symptoms?

Just spoke with doctor. She is giving me some gaviscon and then will see me next week to see if it's helped.

I'm sorry to hear that. I hope both our boys start to feel less pain soon. Doctor has just prescribed some gaviscon to see if it will help so I'm going to not give him the 2nd dose next week of the rotarix in case it makes him worse.
Iv done some research and 1st dose still gives him protection. 2nd dose is a second chance to build an immunity response
