Being sent used goods - online shopping

I've been disappointed recently with a few online purchases. They've arrived obviously used.

AIBU that if you buy something advertised as new you should expect to be sent actual new items, not second hand returns.

These were from reputable shops btw.

Were they "obviously used" or had they been tried on and returned?

Returned items go back to general sales, same as in shops

Not clothes, no - one was a steam mop with water droplets in the container and hair/dirt where you attach the mop cloth.

That I would complain about

It was probably return as "unused" and the shop didn't bother to check.

What a weird reply. "I probably should...". You've made the time to come on social media complaining, yet seem to be uncertain about approaching the retailer. Who is, after all, the only body that can sort out this "recurring" issue that you seem to be having of being sent used goods.

Do you work for Dunelm? @socialdilemmawhattodo

According to Google...the Trades Description Act 1968 prohibits describing a product as new if it has been used or repaired. While retailers can sell returned items at a discount (often as "open box" or "used"), they must clearly label them as such to avoid misleading consumers.
