Road rage incident - do I report?

This morning was driving towards a red light. There was a truck coming around the corner, and it probably didn't have enough room. So the guy in the car two cars in front of me wanted to reverse.
He ended up getting out of his car, banging on the car behind him (the car in front of me) and swearing and acting aggressively to the woman in the car. She then got out of car then he speed off and went through red lights.
I think I caught all on my dashcam - do I send to police or anyone?
Thanks for advice

Absolutely yes.

Dotjones · 30/04/2025 10:52

Yes give the footage to the police, they'll at least go after him for the easier offence to prosecute, running a red light.

Karatema · 30/04/2025 10:54

À friend of mine sends footage to the police all the time, I don’t see the point. However, for an incident like this I would send, and I have.

candyflossbabe · 30/04/2025 13:04

Yes as tbh I’m sick of (usually) men getting out of their cars and unleashing their inadequacies on other (usually) female drivers in an attempt to intimidate them!

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/04/2025 13:06

I would. Even if nothing is done it will be recorded and might form part of a pattern.

meganorks · 30/04/2025 13:06

Yeah, definitely. There is a portal for exactly that sort of thing.

If nothing else, he should get a fine/points for jumping a red light.

Ask the woman involved if she wants you to report it. You never know she may not be taxed or insured, or just wouldn't want the hassle of dealing with the police for all sorts of reasons.

Blackdow · 30/04/2025 13:09

The woman in the car in front should have been reading the road and reversed her car as it sounds as though there was space to do so. Instead, she left the junction snarled up. I’d have got out and asked her politely to reverse. He got out and lost it at her, then ran off like a scared wee boy when she opened her door. Sounds like a pathetic likely manchild trying to act hard and scare a lone woman. Not sure the police would care though.

SummerHouse · 30/04/2025 13:10

Hell yeah. Fabulous that you have it on dash cam. Don't let it go to waste. As PP has linked to, you can just send it in via Nextbase. I might be inclined to call 101 though as this might be reported and being allocated for investigation as opposed to just a traffic offence.

Lurkingonmn · 30/04/2025 13:32

I would report it, and have done for other offenses. It was quite a straightforward process.
My thinking is the police have the information. That guy could've sped off caused an accident and it gives evidence of his behaviour. It also might help if it's a pattern of behaviour.
I have had several incidents of cars hitting my property and the police were very clear that I should report every incident.

Katemax82 · 30/04/2025 13:34

Yes do report it, people who do that kind of shit need taking down

He was wrong to bang her car and lose his shit, he could’ve just opened his door and gestured at her to engage a brain cell and move back, but I feel his frustration, the truck was trying to get round, the man used common sense and tried reversing but the idiot woman behind him refused to move or panicked and couldn’t handle the situation, people like that are a massive liability on the roads because they can’t handle a mild situation like that! I wouldn’t hand it in because I’m not that petty because nothing actually happened so what’s the point? Do you think he won’t get angry at anymore idiots on the road ever again? It’s unlikely and that’s if they are even bothered to follow it up. But also you’ve no idea if the woman is fully legit so you’re risking landing her in it too 😏

No crime without a victim. Unless she reports it they won't do anything. Best thing u could have done is go tell her if she was to report it u have the footage and give her ur number.

HJ91 · 30/04/2025 14:31

Hi OP, yes please do report via the dash-cam link. Please note that many police forces require you to submit footage asap so that they can send a Notice of Intended Prosecution within a week.

I sent footage do the police. It resulted in a conviction. So there is a point.
